Trick Plays

What do you all think about the trick plays that were called in the UT game? By "trick play" I mean the reverse , the HB pass, and the like. Do you think these were calls made in the moment or chosen for the game? Will we see more of this or will it be saved for close game second half heroics? I just think that these plays can really be a pain for defenses if executed well. They can make a defense VERY frustrated. I realize that you can't establish an offensive drive running reverses. All I know is when Lucky pulled it back to pass I thought I was going to come out of my skin.

 
Callahan said the trick plays are something they keep in the playbook, but only call if the defense looks to give it up. They can definatly be momentum changing events if they work.

With the HB pass they had seen the secondary charge to the line hard on the toss play the first couple times they called it. And texas bit on the toss play again, and made it an easy play.

 
I believe I read (can't remember where, may have been OWH), that they actively practiced those trick plays the week before the Texas game, and would run then unbeknownst to the defense with similar results, i.e. the defense was expecting them.

 
I think this man has so many plays up his sleeves it would make our heads spin!!!! He goes all out when he needs to and he's still adjusting to the college level. Once he gets adjusted and starts showing us his real genious the nation better watch out...........I loved the plays and I would love to see more of em!!!! :thumbs

That's an excellent point. Still getting acclimated to the college game. When do you run that many trick plays in a pro game, maybe a couple a season. I loved all the play calls last weekend. I think most naysayers can't really say sh#t to refute that he called a good game last week, aside from dingleberries that wanted Taylor to take a knee on 3rd instead of throwing to Nunn. :nutz

 
I had one Iowa fan tell me that we had the worst coach in college football!!! Needless to say I laid into his a$$ and pointed out a lot of facts and he shut his damn mouth!!!! :angry:

 
i love the trick plays. It's obvious which ones Callahan loves. The half back pass and the reverse are two of them. Even the announcers last week couldn't believe we only gained 10 or so yards on the reverse....we usually get so much more. That guy snuffed out that play easily

Everybody will keep that in the back of their minds and if it slows them up a bit it may be all we need to turn the corner on certain plays. I love this stuff. BC, I believe has a vision as to where he wants this team to be and when he wants to get there and he will take it one step at a time.

I may not agree with his decisions some of the time but that is why I am not the coach among other reasons.

I think right now we are a dangerous team...........just think how we will be in a few years with even better recruits and more development!!!! Next year should be even better depending on how Keller picks everything up!!! :thumbs

 
As much as I love the trick plays, it scares me at times. If there would have been a fumble or Lucky threw in interception, this thread would have a total different tone. I agree that they are a huge momentum changer when they work. I think that BC is very smart and knows when to call the trick plays. As long as they work, I will love them!! :restore
