Bo and Paps

Basic rule of thumb is that you don't openly undermine respect for a coach in front of the guys you expect to follow him into battle.

There are other, less public ways to do it. Or you just fire someone who is clearly that inept.

Bo vs. Pap really wasn't the same as a coach getting in the grill of a player as he comes off the field. The network knew that, and that's why they kept the camera on them.

Also, it's been going on for a couple games now.

On a team that has had the wheels come off in big games, seeing the Head Coach lay into his own Defensive Coordinator - repeatedly - during a game in front of the players is kind of an issue, whether you agree with Bo or not. It's not Nebraska specific either. It qualifies as drama on any team in any sport. When it happens on a team like the New York Jets it's just a little funnier.

Well, I rewatched the game, and payed extra close attention to these "situations". Someone here with any sort of common sense want to explain to me what the issue is here? I dont see it.
The opposing team had already lost the game but kept running a hurryup offense so they could get a few more points on the board and make the score look more respectable. We were trying to get the scrubs into the game for a few snaps and nothing went right. The coaches shook their heads and said to each other, "what the heck is going on??" and "what are we gonna do about this?" You're right....nothing to see here.

Not sure about that one way or another

Saw Bo blow up on Barney quite a few times last year

It may just be who he is and how he operates- not saying its right or wrong

It may be just like his players

He may get into them, but they know he cares about them and has his back and all is forgiven afterwards, dont have a clue

Philosophy wise, I dont disagree with anything youve said as to troops respecting the leadership etc

Bingo! I have had many disagreements with assistant coaches over the years, but never did I expose discontent/disrespect in front of my players. It simply is not the appropriate time or place to resolve issues. Period!

Bo should not berate Paps like that in a public manner. Bad managerial move. It conveys to the players that Bo thinks Pap is doing poorly and that undercuts Pap in the eyes of the players. The players confidence in Paps is now even more compromised. That is just poor management technique. Bo should bring Paps in, privately, on Monday (or some other time) and wail all he wants on the guy... but not in front of the players... never, ever undercut a coach in front of the players.

If someone is screwing up during a game you fix it. Whether it is a player or a coach you cant wait until next week to address it. The stakes are a little higher in the big boy leagues and you need thick skin to be a part of it. If your coaches, or your players cant handle someone getting coached, then you are in trouble. It is part of being a competitor. Coaches get in arguments all the time during a game. Especially with the communication issues we had late in the game I am surprised Bo was as tame as he was. That is inexcusable.

Works for Saban.

Aaand I also think we don't see Paps next year. IMO

Ive not met PAP, Ive seen him with his family a number of times

I know people who know him and say he is an excellent guy. Hard working family man.

He looks as if he recruits pretty well. Find a spot for him, somewhere.

Look at Jeff Jamrog in his role, another coach on the field, without going against the coach count. He is in football operations, but plays an important role for this team on and off the field. Former coach, former successful head coach.

Hopefully if PAP cant cut it, something somewhere can be worked out for him.

Yeah but I think Saban is legitimately evil. So that might have something to do with his methods working.

Bo's not evil, he's just immature.

Who says he hasn't had closed door discussions with him and the same crap on the field continues to happen? Sometimes you need to get lit up in public and face a little humiliation to get your sh#t together.

I have also seen him scream into his headset presumably at Beck and he has gone off on Barney as well. If they choose to stick around and take it, that's on them not on Bo.

While Im not a fan of Bo going off on his players or coaches- most of you wouldnt know what you would do until youve been in those shoes.

Lots of pressure on Bo, self imposed and external. I dont like the actions at all but I still like Bo, my guess is most of his coaches and players think the same.

Not everyone can be TO, and Im the biggest TO fan out there. But trying to copy someone who you arent, is really tough- can speak from personal experience of trying.

OK....this is the first I have been around a computer since the game. I briefly looked through the threads and didn't see this discussed so sorry if it has been.

What was going on there? It looked like total confusion.

My opinion is that the coaches were trying something new to figure out how you can substitute on defense against a fast paced offense that doesn't huddle. We were way ahead and the game wasn't in question so the coaches were experimenting a little.

Have the coaches given any explanation?

I have not heard of an actual explanation but I don't think you rip into a coach on the sidelines if you are experimenting with your defense.
