Thinking of creating another Husker football forum

Eric the Red

Team HuskerBoard
This forum would be by permission only.

Stipulations

  1. no wise cracks
  2. Intellegent Husker sports debate/discussion only - thins doesn't mean every post is a research paper
  3. No GIFS

Just want a forum for those here to just read about Husker sports, like when we first started the board. I do not care that people do it in any forum now, it's just we need a change.

I just wonder if it would be redundant and drive discussion away from other places? I understand what you're saying, totally get it, those damn gif's are annoying as hell!

What about expanding Rumorville? We already have the structure in place there and member familiarity with it as this little sh#t/joke of a forum. Its purpose as a place to discuss coaching changes isn't a very mission critical one, and non-coaching related stuff that could conceivably fall under the 'rumor' heading can get redirected there. We could also start 'banishing' there threads that are headed in a low quality direction, to reinforce the idea that a higher level is expected in the Husker football forum, while also providing a sensible place for the silly banter.

I'm not totally behind this idea, just throwing it out. I think any kind of split is going to have big issues with causing confusion about what is supposed to go where. Or, from another standpoint, having two 'core' forums probably ought to threaten the existence of Rumorville entirely.

Alternatively, we could make Rumorville invisible again - it's not needed at this time - and simply let members know that the Husker Football forum is for serious discussion only. Anything post or thread that doesn't follow that goal will be deleted or moved.

My concern no matter which option is selected - new forum, re-purposing Rumorvlle, policing Husker Football - is clearly defining the conditions. No GIFs is pretty clear, but it's hard to come up with language that will make clear what else is not permitted.

If I don't understand half of what is being posted; such as some of the stuff in the woodshed/ does that mean I'm getting too "experienced"???

We talked about having a permission-only football discussion area, but I thought we decided against that a while ago. I could dig up the thread.

I like zoogies' idea of dumping the inanity into a subforum. If it's not a serious discussion, or becomes a gif-bomb war, I can see throwing it somewhere else so Husker Football remains reasonably clean.

I'm a big fan of gifs, but they need to be used correctly. Too often it just becomes a one-upsmanship contest and the threads get trashed. Banning all gifs from Husker Football is not a bad idea.

Throwing out another idea - is it possible to make starting threads in Husker Football a permission-based thing? Bob the Member has an idea for a thread, he types it up and hits Submit, but it doesn't go live until a Mod approves it. If it isn't approved it can be moved into the Football Nonsense forum with the goofy conversations.

No. We can set the forum to Moderator Review, and we can set the forum so that Members can't start topics. The former would require all topics and posts to be approved. The latter would require one of us to actually start the topics.

As I understand it Eric, you're looking for a forum devoted to reasonably serious Husker talk. What about a user-generated "article" forum, kinda like Bleacher Report, where members write serious pieces almost like articles, they submit them via PM to us, and we post the good stuff?

Bye Bye Big XII could povide new content there for sure, I have a few ideas for "articles" I've been kicking around, and I'm sure there are others who would contribute.

The better the piece the better conversation it'll generate.

That's an idea. What we could do is set it to Mod approval; that way, the member would have to submit the topic for approval. That would take care of frivolous topics. Then, we'd just have to patrol it for silly crap.

Didn't we do some sort of article thing years ago? I remember because one of my "articles" was used for the Nebraska vs aTm game or the game better known as "the drive"

We used to have a blog. Still have it, but I think it's just filled with bot posts. I occasionally get an email asking that I approve them, but for the life of me can't remember the password I had for the site. I'll bet that's what you're thinking of.
