Wistrom says selfishness of players "makes me sick"

I think you guys really need to step back and listen to what you are saying. When Bo walked in the door, Nebraska was back in most peoples minds. That he knew Nebraska and would get us back to winning, back to a stellar defense. He came from the SEC so would do a great job on the recruiting side.

He did get us back for awhile, but using the other coaches kids. He dropped the ball on recruiting is the word. But now by some instant change we will be back in the hunt. Reason being, we have one class that is top ten currently. It does not work like that. It takes years of great recruiting to get back.

Some have a timetable that is totally unrealistic, and have had since day one.

We need to see improvement, wins would be great, so would CC. But to think because we may have a top ten class turns the switch to instant success is drinking the koolaid from a tanker truck. We have more talent no question, but there are maybe three kids that would start at any of the other top programs is my guess. And some teams the might be as far down as third string. Still a long ways to go. I want to see this year end with a top 5-10 class. If it does, we have a toe hold and being nationally relevant. If not, more of the same will continue
I hate to bust your bubble now on this but it probably wont. This class will be relatively small. I think Sean Callahan has said 17-18 is about where we're gonna stand. With that said, we're already a little over half dun. Now that's great. But unless we nab the rest as very high profile guys, this class's ranking will begin to fade some as the season begins and as we get into the thick of the recruiting slate in December and january as other programs' numbers start to increase. it will be similar to the 2012, of which was only about that many, but had it been consistently talented throughout 23-25 committs, woulda been top 10 as well. And to me, that's the bs about recruiting rankings. Too much weight on number of signees that promotes a false sense of how talented or not talented a class actually is.
If that's the case then I'd like the Bo defense of "look we have a top five recruiting class!" to stop and stop immediately.

Oh good lord....I would hate for the coaches to use some positive momentum.

Do we currently have a top ten recruiting class in the rankings?

I would say we have a recruiting class. There are probably good players on it. The absolute earliest they can be rated is when it's over, and likely should be judged two years from now.

Yeah....I would rather have Bo go into recruits living rooms and the media and say..."well....we suck...we haven't won anything for a long time of importance. We have lost 4 games per year. We have a few recruits that I'm not going to brag about."

Wow...that just generates a ton of positive feelings around the program.

In fact, I think I am going to email him right now and nominate you for one of our open recruiting positions. I think your positive attitude....excuse me..."honest" attitude around the program is exactly what I think the entire staff should have.

let me know if he gets back to you.

Meanwhile, I will email Miles and remind him that he shouldn't be so positive about the program because they haven't won jack either. What the hell does he think he is doing talking all positive about things?

Nicely said.

The game's gettin old Polo. Real old.

Just get better is all I saying. Improve. Make progress on some of the issues. First it was the offense that couldn't produce. Then the defense failed in record fashion. Then the special teams looked like one of the biggest jokes I've seen to be honest with you. Horrendous. When do we start to see the turnover issue begin to get resolved? When do the stories of entitlement and players not giving complete effort end? Maybe instead of four losses, lose 3. How about winning one of those conference championships instead of blowing the lead against Oklahoma, or the embarrassment that was the Wisconsin game.

PROGRESS.

Honest question - Does progress only count if it is progress in every area all at once? And over how long of a course of time?

There's been tons of progress or no progress depending on your perspective and how far zoomed in you are.

In all honesty, I think we've made progress in some areas some years and progress in other areas in other years. But some of that progress hasn't been maintained some years and has other years. All in all, we're probably netting very little progress over the course of 6 years.

Count, I said I would like to see a top 5 team.

Yea the rankings mean absolutely nothing. I have heard you guys say that forever.

Again, look at the past 14 MNC winners. Every single one had numerous top 5 classes except Ohio State, which was top 10 I believe.

I expect us to fall to around number 20, at best. So that puts the coaches on the hot seat to develop the players and quickly for all your hopes to become reality.

Spurrier said the other day if everything was fair in college football, Bama would not be allowed to recruit for two years or something of that nature.

When we win a CC or get into the playoff, then we can say we have figured out recruiting. I am sorry, but I do not see that being even a slim possibility at this juncture. Bama signed something like 15 4 stars in one weekend. Yea Bo is close.

Great recruiting classes are definitely important and needed to put a consistent top 10 team on the field. But with that said, the one thing that is needed to take a team to the top is a difference maker at QB. Nebraska for 10 years straight from Frazier to Frost to Crouch had difference makers at QB, and we haven't really had one since.

Don't kid yourself by saying that Alabama has done it without one, cause without a decent QB they are not winning all those NC. McCarron and the guy before him were elite QBs.

Great teams have to have great QB play. I hope TA or Stanton or Fyfe or whoever it is will be that guy.

Absolutely not. I just listed the areas I feel we need to see progress in. Turnovers would be a great start. Would be beneficial to the team a great deal. This team knows what the problems are. Damn it all if I don't think it's too much to ask to see them out their heads down, focus in, and fix some things. It would benefit them a lot more than Tweeter does.

Over what length of time? Hmmm, well considering the problems I listed have generally been problems for six or more years now, how about we improve on one by year seven.

I think TA will help this team a lot in that aspect. Or at least I hope.

I hear you. And I mostly agree with you. But a lot of people make the same argument and take it too far.

It's weird some of the stuff that people attach to Bo.

I've heard a lot of people believe a reality where our special teams play has been poor for six seasons. It has been pretty good overall in Bo's tenure. It was even good last year in every area besides punt return.

I've also heard a lot of people b!^@h about how we'll never see less penalties and false starts, but we're way better at those things.

After 2011 and 2012 people forgot that 2009 and 2010 existed and whined about how our team is always and forever awful on the defensive side of the ball.

Not attributing those things to you, it's just weird the way that people see things. There was a good amount of progress in at least a handful of areas last season. There needs to be more in turnovers lost and forced, in mental preparedness, etc., as well.
