I'm not punting. And I don't think it's a talent issue at Nebraska. Never have.
The NFL draft disagrees, but continue with your crusade.Anyhow, I don't want to hear the crying from the entitled (can we still say that here? If not my apologies) if we make it to Indy and suffer an a$$ kicking because our defense has been decimated by injuries, suspensions, and defections.

Cuz we all know that a good coach can foresee and prepare for all of that.
So a good coach can probably in fact prepare for and expect injuries.I mean right? I'm quite certain there isn't a coach anywhere who is looking at his team tonight and saying "yep, this is how it's going to look all year."
The NFL draft disagrees, no?
Have you shipped your crystal ball to North Stadium yet?
huH?

He's saying he wants me to fix the problems I'm so worried about.

Who should we go get then Polo? What coach would come here? Even Jim Grobe turned us down. Houston Nutt, turned us down...
This is always a fun conversation.

Person 1: Give me a list of names!

Person 2: *gives list of names*

Hyperbole much?

Usually person 1 asks for a reasonable list of candidates that would actually come here. Then person 2 starts listing Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, and a bunch of other guys that have no connection to and no interest in coming here. And the statement is made that if "you pay them enough you can get them," the texa$$ and U$C coaching searches be damned and ignored, because, well, we're Nebraska, and I'm a Nebraska fan, so because I want something it must be so.
Or more accurately, people make suggestions such as Chris Petersen and those suggestions are met with "he would never leave Boise State !" or some other speculative, invented excuse.

The entire exercise is a red herring, really. It's not like a ton of people had Tim Miles on their wishlist before Sadler was canned - and that seems to be working out okay.

Well it's pretty unknowable who would come here without a search. At least for us.

It's not incredibly concerning because injuries happen to literally every team in every sport.

Oh and the "Bo gets recruiting and we have TEH DEPTH" mantra should assuage your worries. In no way should this be framed as an "out"

And cmon, unknown to Espn and unknown to NU fans are two wholly different things, it's foolish to say otherwise.
I guess I haven't said much about recruiting expect that it has improved the last 2-3 years. Either way, we were thin at those positions, and the players we lost didn't have much experience to begin with. I know I've seen enough football to understand that true freshman aren't going to normally be as good as 5th years seniors. Well unless your getting a bunch of 5 stars who are game ready.

I'll agree, ESPN doesnt have the same familiarity as our fans. I just wish that some of us would recognize that.
We didn't lose any 5th year seniors, and LBer was our deepest position on that D.
You missed the point. We're not playing with many 5th year seniors on this defense. Most of them are in their first our second years playing division 1 football. They're generally not going to be as good as they will in a couple of years, and of we're playing against a team stacked with 4th and 5th year players, they'll likely have an advantage.

A search firm was used in 2007......though the time the most aggressive search was performed by the AD himself was probably 2003......and that didn't work out so well.

Yeah, of it helps the program, I'm all for it. You seem to think that it's so easy.
I'd like you address the misstatement that we have the talent so it must be the coaches who are causing us to only win 9 or 10 games a year, hence the statement about the NFL draft.

Apples and orangutans.
And the statement wasn't that Peterson wouldn't leave, it's that he'd only leave for the right place, hence he turned down USC but took the UW job, which had a lot to do with comfortability and the fact that he had recruiting relationships in Pacific NW.

You have a very different definition of "search firm" if you think 07 represented a thorough search.

I do not think 2007 represented a thorough search by any stretch of the imagination (thus what I said in the rest of that post about when the most aggressive search was done by the AD). I think the search firm (the one in Atlanta if memory serves correctly) was used to gauge interest, but Pelini was the #1 candidate all along.

I don't understand. This is the tangent thread yet everyone wants to stay on topic...this thread gets a low score...

I really think Tommy is going to shut most of his critics up and I would be just fine with that. Wont make everyone happy but he doesn't need to.
I hope so. I'd like nothing more than our starting. QB to bring more than just confidence and supposed leadership to the table. Consistently making plays and not being a turnover machine would be great.
At this point I think your concerns are sufficiently documented. Why not give him some time to develop and see what becomes of him? If he's still making all these mistakes in the middle of his Junior year after 20+ starts, blast away.
But holy crap, man, give it a rest already.
I'll make you a deal, when all of the Bo Leavers quit derailing every thread by beating their tired, worn out, dilapidated, tattered dead horse I'll quit beating this one.
Sound good?

Besides, we don't have until next year to wait, we HAVE to win a CCG and make the playoffs, don't ya know?
