I've liked Bush since he committed and thought his video highlights were pretty interesting, listening to the radio last night Nate Clouse was saying Bush might be the most athletic quarterback we have. I've never jumped on the Stanton bandwagon. I still think Tommy starts this year then after that who knows.

August 2013

Stanton is the future. Armstrong probably transfers after the year.
August 2014

AJ Bush is the future. Stanton probably transfers after the year.
August 2015

Dillman is the future. AJ Bush probably transfers after the year.
are these real quotes?
Not that it would surprise me from him. And they almost have to be. you cant make that sh#t up. LOL.

But seriously.......
C'mon buddy old pal you know I'm not that bad.

Some people are just not able to evaluate talent. Some people don't even know what the hell their looking at or looking for. Tommy has every physical tool you ask for in a QB. He has the calm presence and leadership you look for in a QB. He stands in the pocket, doesn't panic, and steps out of trouble. This will help the offensive line immensely. He struggled with some pre snap reads. He struggled with the speed of the game. He struggled with timing a bit. He let some throws sail, and some throws we're dropped. Time and experience cure every single one of these problems. It's all mental stuff. It can all be taught and learned.
I would imagine that Taylor was probably the hardest qb to pass block for in the history of football.
That's an interesting observation. A scrambling quarterback can be a huge advantage when things go wrong. But you don't want a qb to scramble too quickly or too often. The OL gets exhausted and/or piles up holding penalties.

As bummed as I was when Taylor went out, I was kinda thrilled at the prospect of retooled offense myself. Armstrong takes a deeper step back in the pocket and takes the evasive step or two rather than break rank completely. His stats may have been humble, but I immediately liked Tommy's instincts.
Taylor had happy feet. There cant be any disagreement on that. And it's because he wasnt really a natural qb. He was a tremendous athlete who happened to be able to throw the ball averagely in a time when frankly, he was the best choice. And his frequent jaw dropping plays and runs covered up a lot of the downsides but gave us the necessary upside in a system that allowed for it. He played qb for one season in high school, was brought here as an athlete, played WR in scout (not even qb to allow himself to develop), and then was put at qb because he could dazzle defenses with his speed. Tommy's been playin qb much longer and he's a natural fit the for the position.
We are in absolute agreement you guys.
I am so damn excited to see this offense ran with some timing, no hesitation, and a guy that will have the patience to stand in the pocket and let the play develop. Again though, I have to be careful, because I'm made out to be a Martinez hater, when really I'm just a lot more excited about Tommy Armstrong than I ever was about Taylor. Nothing personal.

I think we are in for something special folks. I truly do.

I also had a pretty heated exchange with a delusional fan who said that the reason the defense played better late in the year last season is because they liked TA better than TM.

So he accused the defense of sand bagging and jaking because he didn't like Taylor. I recall the 90s when there was a huge split in the team over whether Tommie or Brook should pay, but could you imagine anyone on those defenses jaking because the guy they liked better wasn't the starter?

Yeah, me neither.
I don't think the defense - or offense - sandbagged Taylor. I think he was pretty well liked and a lot of players understood he wasn't a media guy and tried to protect him from that.

But I do think they may have played a little harder for Tommy. Not because they liked him better than Taylor, but because the season was on the verge of collapse and everyone knew they had to pull it together. This is a team that doesn't handle expecations very well, and when Taylor went down and people started writing us off, I think it took some of the pressure off.

I've heard there's a superstar syndrome on some teams, especially in the NBA. When the offense revolves too much around one player, teammates aren't as engaged. When the single best player on a team goes down, sometimes the whole team plays better.

I think others on the team knew Tommy wasn't looking to hit a home run on every play on his own.......so other players knew they would get involved......which makes them more engaged.

You both made very well reasoned sensible posts, thank you.

If I've seen any prediction or reaction from Martinez supporters like myself, it's that Armstrong deserves his shot, and that with an otherwise veteran offense and rapidly improving defense, Nebraska should be taking a step forward.

Honestly can't imagine a single Husker or Martinez fan rooting for failure in an attempt to prove Martinez was somehow irreplaceable.

I guess it's a fait accompli that Taylor Martinez is now the Blue Lion in the Callahan/Steve Pedersen/ESPN bias Voltron of Things That Hurt Nebraska Forever.

I'll never understand it, all the kid did was be one of the best QB's the school ever had.
