The Wiz of Odds: ESPN's 'Game Day' Problem

We'd have likely gotten crushed by Arkansas. Let alone the actual "good" teams in the sec.
You are the exact person ESPN targets week in and week out.
people who prefer good football?
What exactly makes a 17-10 win by Miss. St. over Arky a better game than a 20-19 Maryland last minute kick over Penn State? The fact that Miss. State has a 1 in front of their name and is relevant for the first time in forever?

People that believe the hype of an entire conference based on x-number of teams. See my post on page 1, Georgia and Nebraska as a prime example. Coincidentally, nobody has responded to the comparison and questions head on. I'm sure if ESPN discusses it, it would help you & Polo come up with a response.

the quality of football is better. better athletes and coaches.

Before we try and turn this into a thing where the "smarts" don't watch Espn and "buy what they're selling", most everyone here is admitting they're the best conference with the best teams. And I've watched Arkansas, they wouldn't be winless in another conference, hell, they might be in the upper end of the Big Ten.

The initial post, or another one? I already responded to the initial one, said it was pretty bad. Stop watching game day and other ESPN talk shows if they bother you. There are other CFB shows.
This is the one I referenced before. It doesn't bother me one bit, I do enjoy discussing it and I also watch the BTN show. Outside of the two mentioned, I'm not aware of others.
I'm not going to argue every post, and I didn't see too much wrong with it anyway. If I wanted to be picky about it, I'd say not to put too much on our bowl win last year, but yeah, I always did think Georgia was overrated this year. As far as Nebraska dropping a place after Rutgers, I think people think too much about where we should be and think the rest of the ratings should be built around it. I mean, we play an 11am game and after it people are asking where we will fall with no thought that there are a bunch of other relevant games to be played. After Rutgers, we were barely passed by LSU that just beat a top 5 team. Their game had a lot more to do with it than ours. The coaches kept LSU behind us.

Don't get bent out of shape if people don't respond to a post of yours. I get frustrated by that sometimes too, as I'm sure many do, especially when I continue to see the same points I argued against still being made with no acknowledgement of my points. It happens. There's a lot of posts and not all will get responded to.

Georgia had a better team coming into this year than Nebraska with less question marks. That was obvious. Without rehashing the Most Important. Bowl Victory Ever That Proves The Death Of The SEC that was the Gator Bowl, I think we all know the motivation level for Georgia and the injuries to both teams.

So I guess the committee, Osborne included, is delirious because they don't veer too far from the AP or coaches poll. Clearly the good folks on Huskerboard are the only sane and knowledgeable ones.
Osborne is 1 of 12.

We also don't have a monetary stake in it.
Barry Alvarez makes it 2 of 12, and I suspect we'd call out that glaring bias if it were anyone else but the Huskers.

And yeah, Huskerboard doesn't have a monetary stake in it, but as passionate devotees of a single NCAA team who DON'T have to put their money on the line, our judgement is highly suspect.

But does anyone think Nebraska is 8 - 1 playing in the SEC West?
With Alabama's schedule, yes, I believe NU would be 8-1 at this point.

And we are all admitting they're the best teams, the only way there'd be a bias is if they weren't and still got in.

And before there's a flip 2011 reference, name another team besides USC that belonged there. You can't.
crushed by Arkansas huh. Give me a break, the only other team on there id have been worried about is WVU. Honestly that schedule is a little better than ours overall but only because some of the teams on our schedule turned out to be absolutely terrible, like Illinois and fresno. Totally agree that we would likely be 8-1 with that schedule.
Yeah Nebraska has had a real success stopping power running teams. Especially coached by Bret Bielema. They're better than their record by a long shot. And I'd hate to have their schedule.
that was 2012
And the one year that everyone points to as evidence of clear bias was 2011, so......

they are the best conference with the best teams. that is undeniable. the "hype of an entire conference" is what i do not understand. there is hype around their good teams, because they are good. and their good teams is what makes it the best conference.

this seems like just arguing semantics.

I'd like to hear how you'd think Arkansas would do in the Big ten with our schedule. My guess is they'd be 8-1 just like us.
