NU never contacted Scott Frost per Oregon Head Coach

I live in Portland. On my home this evening, the Oregon Head Coach had a quote on radio news that Scott Frost was NEVER contacted by NU.

I about drove off the road...................

Riley was choice 1B...1A was Tressel and that would have been only with Frost as OC due to the baggage he brought with him. Frost only wanted the HC job, so we moved on.

Frost is enjoying a program at its pinnacle (last 8-10 years)- would he want to take step back and come here? Doubtful. Colorado State would be a great place for him to cut his teeth, or across the way at Oregon State.

Riley does strike me as a similar mold to Tressel. Widely held in high regard, but without the resume at a big time program. Both would have been great at the helm during this necessary time of healing. Both are older, accomplished coaches, with the hope being they bring about the desired culture shift and maybe, just maybe, build a nice coaching tree here in Lincoln to hand off to the next guy.

I love Frost, but he would have been a gamble in comparison. I'm happy with this hire. Maybe Frost does eventually make it back to Lincoln.

You honestly are not interested in WHY Frost was not even considered?
Not so much, but can probably thank the previous HC OTJ training experiment. Or at least point towards it which may have played a major roll in consideration.

I think it's really just as simple as our AD had his own guy, had done all his due diligence as is his job, and wasn't run by boosters or regents.

We don't know if we would have worked our way towards Frost had Riley declined. Eichorst values positive energy, and that is something I think Riley and Frost both share in abundance What Riley offers right now is a lot more experience and a lot more stability.

You have to contact the University prior to initiating contact with a prospective coach in this situation. You don't think Helfrich would not have known? That's probably impossible.

We all barked up the wrong tree.

I'm completely shocked that the coordinator of the best offence in college football, who has ties to us (which is the only reason we'd even have a shot at getting him to make a lateral-ish move), hasn't at least been contacted about possibly making a move here.

I want Frost here, but I would be really bummed if this were his first job and he blew it because he couldn't get the coordinators he wanted or needed at this point in his career and they had to let him go. That would have really sucked.

News talked to Frost's dad by phone and he basically said he could not say too much, but that Scott knows Mike Riley very well. I thought it was a long shot, but maybe there is a chance that Scott become out OC-asst. head coach.
