The guy gets props for me for being the guy that drafted Drew Brees into the NFL.He'll get his shot, but there is work to be done, little time to do it.BlitzFirst said:Wow. Just Wow.Exactly. He doesn't have plenty of time, he needs to get to work yesterday.Thats just it...he doesn't have plenty of time. He is starting recruiting today, he said...time is up.BlitzFirst said:He's been here a single day folks. Give him some time....he's got plenty of it.Yeah...I think he has been pretty isolated...but it still something that kind of bugs me a bit...1. Really well respected but might not know a lot of guysThat struck me as odd, too. You'd think he'd have a pretty full Rolodex by now.For a guy who is so well respected around coaching and media circles, he knows NOBODY on the staff?
2. Might be bringing most/all of his old staff
3. Offense is a hodgepodge/multiple
Not the end of the world but just things that kind of made me go "hmmmm"
I,agree with you about all of your concerns.
I was expecting him to win the press conference, but I wasn't impressed.
I said last night that this hire seemed very callahanesque, after hearing this press conference and everything about this guy, he seems more Doc Sadler to me.
You guys need to let him take care of business. He's got 40 more years experience than you and he knows what he's doing.
He also gets props from me for signing a beast like Steven Jackson.
Also - for those of you that are wondering why Eichorst hired this guy:
Randy York’s N-Sider
Two years ago, when Wisconsin Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez was in search of a new Badger head football coach, the former Nebraska All-Big Eight Conference linebacker had Mike Riley on his short list. “I wanted Mike to talk with me about our job, but he wasn’t interested in leaving Oregon State,” Alvarez told me in a telephone conversation Thursday afternoon. Alvarez didn’t take the rejection personally “because I knew how many great jobs Mike’s turned down in the past,” he said. "Mike is really well thought of in our business. He’s one of the good guys in college athletics. He comes from a great background, has a really good offensive mind, and runs a very good program. I think he’ll be a great fit at Nebraska.”
