There are a few reasons. Harbaugh is being viewed as a savior currently. With that happening comes incredible time demands and he is going to get pulled in every single direction imaginable and be under a ridiculous microscope. Now, for your typical big time fball coach (Meyer for example) he understands the song and dance and doesn't know anything different. However, Harbaugh has excelled at the NFL level as well where you are able to spend the vast majority of your time just focusing on coaching. In addition, you have recruiting and all the crap that comes with that plus the limitations on time you can actually spend coaching. I personally think Harbaugh will stick around as long as Meyer sticks around. However, if I fast forwarded 3-4 years and you told me Harbaugh left to go back to the NFL it wouldn't shock me in the least. Why would he want to? He's had ties to MU since he was a little boy tagging along with his Dad when he went to work. Again NFL, is a revolving door, Michigan is a job he can retire from. The comeback kid (remember when he was with the Colts) was a great hire for M but one has to wonder how many years before its back to the NFL. This hire definitely gives Mich a boost in recruiting, interest, and most likely will result in more wins for them. Riley at NU was not a bad hire though not a splash hire. Time will tell. NU doesnt have a harbaugh out there, I dont think the whole Frost thing is ready, and he may never come back if he likes the west coast.
