2015 Game 3 “Expert” Picks: Nebraska @ Miami
—————
CollegeFootballNews.com
http://collegefootballnews.com/2015/nebraska-vs-miami-week-3-fearless-prediction-preview
It’s the first game of the rest of Nebraska’s life. One pass away from getting out of the BYU opener with a win, now the Huskers have to pick up the pieces and try to start making everything work a little bit better. South Alabama struggled to get past Gardner-Webb, but it got the win. Now it’s time for the Jaguars to go big game hunting and try to take advantage of the wounded animal.
Why You Need To Care
It’s a battle of storied programs, both looking to recapture the glory days when titles were the norm. Miami is unbeaten, though the Canes were sluggish for much of last Friday’s 44-20 win over Florida Atlantic. Against a better opponent last week, Miami is probably sitting at .500 right now. With upcoming games with Nebraska and Cincinnati, the Canes have a chance to polish up their reputation, while building a head of steam to take into ACC play. The Huskers are one play, a Hail Mary against BYU, from being 2-0 as well. The Cougar loss was a crushing way to begin the Mike Riley, though Nebraska did bounce back last week with a 48-9 rout of South Alabama. A win in Miami won’t erase the pain of the opener, but it would certainly put it deeper into the rear view mirror.
Why Nebraska Will Win
The offense is off to an explosive start. No team in America has produced more plays of 10 yards or more than the Huskers. RB Terrell Newby is coming off a career day on the ground, and QB Tommy Armstrong is dong a nice job of involving receivers Jordan Westerkamp, Brandon Reilly and Alonzo Moore. Plus, Miami’s start on defense has had more to do with the competition than the talent on the two-deep.
Why Miami Will Win
The secondary is the weakest unit of the Nebraska defense. And Cane QB Brad Kaaya is out to keep it that way. Kaaya is one of the top young quarterbacks in the country. And his ensemble is evolving to now include backs Mark Walton and Joseph Yearby and receivers Rashawn Scott and Herb Waters. So far, the rebuilt Miami line has protected Kaaya, while fueling some gaudy ground numbers for the young Hurricane backs.
Player Who Matters
For Yearby and Walton to keep rolling along, the interior of the Miami O-line will need to neutralize juniors Maliek Collins and Vincent Valentine, a couple of Nebraska space-eaters. In general, the Huskers are strong up the middle, which will present a difficult challenge for the less experienced Hurricane blockers.
What’s Going To Happen?
This is an evenly matched game, which will likely come down to the final drive or two. There’s not a ton separating the Canes and the Huskers entering Week 3. Both have shown holes and flashes to start the season. Kaaya will wind up walking away with game MVP honors, capping his best performance of the season so far with the decisive scoring strike in the final quarter.
PREDICTION: Miami 30 - Nebraska 26

David Fox:
The Huskers are trying to find consistency on offense, but the emergence of Terrell Newby, who rushed for 198 yards and accounted for three touchdowns against South Alabama last week, is encouraging. Miami is also trying to figure out how to consistently move the ball. The team that avoids stalled drives will have the upper hand.
Nebraska 28 - Miami 21
Braden Gall:
I have no good feel about this game but like the other Big Ten-ACC tilts this weekend, I like the home team. Joe Yearby and Brad Kaaya are forming a nice 1-2 offensive punch and Nebraska is still trying to find itself.
Miami 40 - Nebraska 30
Steven Lassan:
Not sure what to expect in this game, as these two teams seem relatively even. Miami’s defense was shaky in the first half against FAU, but the Hurricanes allowed only three points in the final two quarters. Quarterback Brad Kaaya and running back Joseph Yearby is an explosive combination for Miami’s offense. Nebraska’s secondary has allowed 300 yards passing in back-to-back games and will be tested once again on Saturday. The Cornhuskers are going to score their share of points behind quarterback Tommy Armstrong and running back Terrell Newby (198 yards last week). This one is a toss-up.
Miami 38 - Nebraska 34
