Riley Supporters...

Yeah, but it's possible to have both standards and class. Calling our AD names or suggesting he's sabotaging Nebraska or just waiting for the Wisconsin job -- because of what? -- isn't standards. It's bush league.
I don't think Pederhorst is a saboteur. I just think he's clueless when it comes to hiring football coaches. WTH was he thinking?

The total WTF factor of the Riley hire is what makes people speculate about sabotage and such. They're just looking for explanations of the inexplicable.

Everyone has their limits on what they will support.

Put all the possible hires on a continuum. Nick Saban and Urban Meyer near the top. Biffy the trained chimp near the bottom. I can pretty much guarantee that over 99% of the fans would have fully supported Saban or Meyer, and less than 1% would've supported Biffy.

Riley is somewhere in the middle. He's way below my cutoff point for "supporting the hire". It had disaster written all over it from the beginning. And I am far from alone in that feeling.

Under Perlman's watch, there is too much history of bonehead moves within the athletic department. So maybe I'm more skeptical than some. But I damn sure ain't no GBRobot that just happily supports anything the morons running the program throw at the wall.

I'm making Coach Riley a Christmas sweater to show my support. It's looking like he may have to wear it golfing at his warm weather holiday destination as coaching in a bowl game is looking less likely by the Saturday. I will continue to support him like an extra small jock strap on a sumo wrestler. I don't how much longer I can hold up to all that is pouring out.
This is funny.

I don't think you have to be in one corner or the other. There is nothing wrong with letting this season play out (good or bad) and then see where things are next season. Everyone wants a smooth transition into new coaches.

Some go bad and then get better-Saban

Some start great and then go bad-Hoke

Some stay the same-Pelini

If Riley isn't the guy, he's not the guy. On to the next. But I think he deserves 2 full seasons to show what he can do before pitchforks get brought out of storage.
Agree. The people who are letting this play out are all good with me, that's what I expect.

Now a guy like myself, I kind of appreciate a guy like Riley and his approach to things. I like his even keel mentality and I like the way he talks to people. I can respect a guy like that, and I aspire to be more and more like that.

So maybe I root for these guys a bit, maybe I give them the benefit of the doubt, but a lot of that also has to do with the way I just truly grew sick of the garbage from the last staff. All the negativity on the outside was somehow brought into the program and built into this huge feeling of hatred and resentment between fans and players. That's just sad in my opinion. One guy and his crap attitude was able to do so much damage to what I thought was one of the most unified programs in history.

Maybe it's not as bad as I think it is, but when we've got a captain on the offensive line saying and doing the things he's doing, then I can say with almost certainty that he echoes the feelings of too many of his teammates. If he didn't, then why the hell would he be an elected captain?

Either way, my issue lies with the guys who've been in waiting, sitting here anticipating failure so they could open their mouth's. Just hoping for the moment they could say how much we'd regret firing thier beloved coach Bo Pelini. That's moronic. That's a symbol of misplaced loyalty. This is the Huskers, not the Pelini's. It ain't the Riley's either. If these guys don't get it done, they'll move on too, and if it's to the benefit of the program, so be it. Pelini moving on was to the benefit of the program.

Riley deserves a chance to show whether or not he and his staff will bring this program up or down. One year, five games in, we don't know......
You're so emo.

Hard to disagree with ^that.

If we aren't looking at a competent, well oiled team that can beat Illinois next year, we can hit reset.
Boy howdy.......the expectations bar really got lowered there. So all we need to be able to do is beat Illinois? That isn't even Iowa worthy.
That's hardly where I set the bar. But it's something this years team couldn't do, so I would friggin hope they are capable next year. This staff wants to win my full support back, they will need to knock off Oregon.

HAHAHAHA! I just saw emo's response to my post above got moved to the offending posts thread. I didn't know woodshed posts could get moved to the offending posts thread???

But I will respond to it.

The thing you don't understand, emo, is that I haven't been quiet. It's just that before Riley had a chance to throw away games with bonehead idiocy, I was drowned out by the sunshine pumpers. Now that Riley brought all the clouds in, my posts don't get washed out by the koolaid induced light.

And I call you emo because you're emotional. It's obvious you base your opinions on a lot of emotion. Not saying you didn't play football, but it's a common trait amongst the segment of the fanbase that were never on the business side of the sidelines.

I base my opinions on facts, not emotions or other people's opinions.

Then you aren't a true fan.

Did I move it? My bad, if so -- probably didn't even notice it was in the woodshed, whatever it was.

The guy that feels the need to call a message board poster who disagrees with him "emo", or to use the name "Pederhorst" for our AD, or types four "HA"s in capital letters and slaps on three ???s at the end for good measure ... doesn't base his thoughts on emotion?

Fans have passion. There's nothing wrong with it really, but how it's expressed varies.

I didn't say I don't show emotion or that I don't have emotions. I just don't use them to formulate my opinions or stances on various subjects.

I'll give you a better illustration. Abortion and Gun Rights. Two highly charged issues. Let's look at the conservative stance. On abortion, conservatives are typically emos. ("They're murdering babbys!") But on gun control, they are very rational and logical. The 2nd amendment makes it clear that our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Liberals are the opposite. On abortion, they are rational and logical. Roe v Wade guaranteed a woman's right to privacy. It's between her and her doctor and no one has a right to interfere with her decisions until the fetus is potentially viable outside the womb. But on gun control, it's all emotion. ("How many 1st graders in body bags before we have sensible gun laws?!?!?")

So, most people are emo on some issues, but not all issues. I happen to be emo on zero issues.
