Repetitive posting and reporting

I've always hated reporting people. I think before last week I did it twice.

But when I suggested that posting the same sh#t over and over should be against board rules, I was told I should start reporting people who did it. So I did. I just received a message from a mod saying to quit reporting it. The rules SERIOUSLY need to be reconsidered. And don't tell me to put people on ignore. I just see end up seeing their quoted messages anyway.

I'm not going to stop doing it. Maybe if you get that many reports you'll see how much they actually do flood the board.

To clarify, I'm the one that sent her the PM, I never said you couldn't report these things, I told you that they would keep getting closed because people being negative and posting the same thing over and over isn't a rule violation. It would be helpful if people would understand that their opinion isn't gospel, it's their opinion. I don't agree with people being so negative and repetitive, but there are some out there that just plain are and probably are with everything in their lives. You also posted the below post in another thread and I asked you how you measure such a thing and basically draw the line? If you'd care to answer that and tell us how we decide when someone crosses over that very thin line of what could possibly be a rule violation in your mind that may be helpful.

As far as the mods being great and volunteers, etc., I get that. I was a mod for a band with a bunch of emo gothic teenage fans who were constantly filled with angst. I understand you can't please everyone.

That being said I'm stating my opinion rather than just leaving. It doesn't mean I dislike any of you.

And how do you control that realistically speaking? When is it considered "crossing the line" and how do you define that line? That's not easy considering the way different people could interpret what was said and whether that was crossing the line. BIGREDIOWAN

I agree it's time we re-evaluated the board rules. Obvious trolls shouldn't be allowed to poison the board.

 
Posting the same thing that's negative in different threads with a different spin doesn't necessarily fit the definition of a "troll" IMO. I might be off with that opinion, but to me a troll is someone who is a little more extreme than that with what they do.

So, new poster after Illinois makes 15 new threads all saying variations of "we suck, Riley should be fired, and if you disagree with me you are wrong". That's an easy one right?

 
A lot can be solved by revisiting the ignore function. If you ignore someone, it should be that you dont see any of their comments, quoted or not. Yeah. Ive tried to ignore ppl too but it really doesnt do any good.

It's called spam and it's against the rules on many message boards.

I said it in the post you quoted. Make your point in 1-3 posts per week. That could be changed to "per day" to be more lenient. Just something like that. And it's not going to kill someone to be sent a warning or be suspended for one day.

Being a sarcastic a-hole in every reply you make is worse than actually calling someone a sarcastic a-hole, imho.

Who was that? Maybe I didn't see it and someone else took care of it. I imagine with that much activity in such a short amount of time that person would've been banned. I could be wrong though............

My opinion is that it doesn't fit the definition of spam, spam is someone coming on here saying, "Hey, look at this product I have to sell, click the link below, sweet jerseys!" or coming on here to drive traffic to a message board or whatever. I don't think you can get this to fit that definition. Another mod or admin can chime in if they'd like if they have a different opinion on that.

How do WE monitor that though? And what if that members post starts out different and then spins into the same drivel at the end? I don't think it's as black and white as you think it is.

 
I agree there are things that have been really damned annoying going on amidst this season. Yet I don't think it has been nearly as bad as it was a few weeks ago, I think a lot of the trash has been handled. I guess you can't make everyone happy though.

 
Spamming isn't limited to just unwanted product pitches. I am a moderator for one very popular Twitch(it's a streaming services where 'personalities' play video games or do just about whatever and interact with their community) streamer who averages about 1800 audience members per stream and another Twitch streamer who averages about 200 members per stream. Because there are a lot of fans of the popular streamer, people want him to read what they post in chat. When that doesn't happen on their first post, they post it again, and again, and again. That's spamming and we tell them to stop. If they don't, we time the account out for 10 minutes. If they still spam, we time them out for longer until they're eventually banned.

Repeating the same narrative into different threads, in my opinion, isn't much different than the above.
