I don't remember anyone saying that......pretty sure everyone thought he was a Nebraska lock

McQuitty tweeted the night before something along the lines of -- Conference call with the boys -- SMH USC, Oh well, GBR. Then deleted shortly after.

It was something like "that sucks oh well I'll still be a husker". Something like that. I think these kids like to throw us off so it leads to a little bit of excitement. Everyone thought kjj was coming to Nebraska so they tried to throw us off. Seems very similar here

 
There was one tweet that simply said "USC" with some sort of frustrated face emoji then a second tweet that seemed to be related to it but they were deleted shortly after being posted. It was speculated that it meant that KJJ was committing to USC the next day.
