The far wall in the coaches’ office at Calabasas High School is bare but for three lists written in pink marker, each headed by a number: 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The first contains the names of the players in this spring’s graduating class who signed scholarship offers to play college football. The second list is for juniors, the third for sophomores.

“Inside my phone, you name the school and we have direct contact with the head coach,” said Calabasas coach Casey Clausen. “Alabama is Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin. If it’s Georgia, it’s obviously Kirby Smart and Jim Chaney.

Clemson, Coach Swinney. We know all those guys personally. You think your son’s good enough? Let’s call them right now.”

The wall provides tangible evidence of one program’s inroads at this growing high school football power in Southern California. To the school’s prospective recruits, this isn’t Calabasas; it’s Calabraska.

Cool article. Hopefully, this isnt a one-year kind of deal.

I found it interesting that Baylor and UCLA are listed as "elite".

They have any elite linemen @ Calabasas? It;s great we're getting skill players, but when we start regularly landing 4* linemen across the board, we can really start cheering. Teams are built from the center outward...

Great read and very positive press. Never underestimate the impact social media has on kids these day. I am sure they know "who is who" across the recruiting boards and check to see where guys are signing. Recruiting "better" will result in better recruiting.

Ucla moreso than Baylor has done jack on the national level. About just as much as we have since Mora took over.

If more and more keeps coming out about Baylor and not investigating the reported sexual assaults they could run into trouble and go back to the irrelevant program they once were

Clausen strikes me as slimy as hell.

Reminds me of how Saban recruits too. "I have all the connections to make you great." Only problem is, he's supposed to be a HS coach and not allowed to recruit.

so we get highly ranked recruits from a school....and you feel obligated to denigrate their coach?

fwiw....private high schools all over the country do recruit players.

It's a public high school.

This is Casey's older brother. And yes, he strikes me as a dirtbag, which is a sentiment shared by many here in the LA area.
