So we're still gonna keep pretending there weren't off-the-field issues that helped enable Frank Solich's dismissal, and we're determined to forget there were plenty of influential alums who thought Nebraska was trending dangerously downwards regardless of who was or wasn't the AD?

For those with short memories, Mike Riley's 6-7 season ended a lot more upbeat than Frank's 7-7 season.

And I was totally cool with keeping Frank, even if I desperately wanted out of that Jamal Lord offense.

But Perleman's hindsight is no more or less excusable than the brilliant posters of HuserBoard, who probably don't want to revisit the many, many times they got it wrong. Including, it seems, the widespread celebration of the Pederson hire.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but Nebraska football's 40 year run of excellence was virtually impossible to sustain, and our 15 year run of mediocrity has been comparable or preferable to the downcycles of every other college football powerhouse.

Very true. As much as I've questioned some of the things he's done, I really hope that he and Eichorst did it right in hiring Riley.

if nothing else I can go to a bar in a Husker shirt and not have to talk about our crazy a$$ coach with some random person who wants to laugh at Nebraska football...that was getting old.

People on bbs's whine about this, but while traveling the country, I never heard that. What I mostly heard is "I went to a game there once; it was awesome" or "do you all have anything other than football out there?"

Bo didn't even rank among the craziest in CFB let alone when stacked against all coaches across all sports.

I'll counter your unsubstantiated anecdotal evidence with unsubstantiated anecdotal evidence of my own -- living on the coasts for years and being fairly tapped into the major metropolitan college football scenes, I can tell you that I heard random people lambast and ridicule Bo constantly. Especially the last 4 years of Bo's tenure, that was almost exclusively what non-Nebraska fans would bring up when they found out I was a Nebraska fan. Conversations almost always began with 1) "Man, you guys really collapsed like house of cards agains XXX team! I can't believe you gave up that many points/yards!" and then immediately moved on to 2) "And your coach is a freaking maniac. I've seen more civility from roid-raging neanderthal!" and eventually they'd come around to, 3) "He does seem to be pretty good at defense, though!" Number 3 happened less frequently the last two or three years of his tenure.

Perlman wasn't a bad chancellor, but he was a bad football chancellor. That's because he didn't care about sports beyond what was required for his position. He even implied as much when he spoke at a non-football Husker event I attended in NYC. His focus was improving the academic prestige of DONU, which he did. Unfortunately, the sports side of it suffered.

And to be clear, I don't believe the two (sports and academics) have to be mutually exclusive. He could have put more effort into restoring our athletic glory without compromising on the academic side of it.

Well, Bo absolutely did not win the games that mattered so what's your point?

Harvey's greatest achievement was Sh*t canning ole BO. I commend Harvey for that endeavor.

Obviously he didn't use your HB name, or your RL name but he did tell the fans to go F themselves, and if you're a fan (I'm assuming you are since you are here posting) that applies to you as well.

He told fans who booed his players to go f#*k themselves. And I echo his sentiments.

The fans should cheer the team off the field at halftime every time. It doesn't matter that we were down 20-6 and being outgained 246 to 117 by an unranked team. Or that NU was coming off a game the week before where they were beat down 48-17.

And if I had to guess, I would say the boos were aimed at Bo and staff.

I know you want to rationalize it all away, but in reality those fans started booing when TM came back in (not unlike what happened to Frost at one point). They had ripped him all week. Very harshly. To the extent that guys like Burkhead felt the need to speak out in his defense.

There's a big difference between booing and simply sitting silently.

That's why I'll never blame players much for a "us against them" attitude. Husker fans can be among the harshest out there when it comes to criticizing their own. Probably because so many have a sense of entitlement related to a self aggrandizement about being the best in the country. Who knows.

Nebraska is in a better spot today than it was two years ago.

But the Big 10 is also tougher than when we joined it.

It will never be easier to win the Big 10 than when Ohio State is on probation and the only thing between you, the CC, the Rose Bowl and a Top 10 ranking is a 5 loss Wisconsin team you beat earlier in the season.

Yeah, this was my experience, too. When people knew I was from Nebraska they would talk football. They'd recall some great Husker teams and players. Then more often than not they'd ask "so what's the problem with that coach of yours?"

I generally found that Husker fans who moved out of state we're more critical of Bo than the folks in-state, some of whom feel inclined to defend anything Nebraska from what they believe is a national media bias.

But some of us just saw Bo being Bo, and it wasn't pretty.

Please show me where Taylor was booed in the 2Q. I was at the game. I don't recall it.

It's on YouTube I'm sure. It was immediately after he threw an interception as he came off the field. That's when Bo gave his famous card wave at the booers.
