...and all the immature a$$holes in the KW dui thread that seem to think driving while intoxicated is not a big deal. I guess that explains why drunk drivers are still killing people every f'ing day.
I haven't read one post where someone thinks it's no big deal.
hmmm....I've seen about a half dozen to that effect.
Maybe the difference is a variation in our interpretation of "no big deal".
If a person thinks that we should keep a coach on staff after his 3rd or 4th offense dui, because recruiting might be negatively affected or because it will help that coach or because it will serve some societal greater good, I would call that treating it like no big deal.
I don't want to come off like a holier than thou d!(k. In fact, I know very well what I am talking about. I got a DWI the first month I was in Lincoln as a student. I blew a .11 directly in front of the stadium on a Saturday night. Spent a few hours at LPD and had to take the classes. This was in 1981 before MADD and before they had really begun to crack down hard on dwi offenses. One thing among many that I learned.....3rd offense in a 41 year old guy signals a problem. Falling off the wagon or whatever friendly euphemism someone wants to call it is just an excuse. What you have to consider are all the times he's done it and not got caught. What would the odds have to be for someone to actually get caught every time they do it? So let's not act like he's only done this 3 times in his life and that it's really been 8 years since the last time.
I guess I take a pretty hard line on dui's. I know people that have been injured and killed by drunk drivers. I understand the mindset of people who think they aren't going to hurt anyone....that it always happens to someone else. I absolutely will not drink and drive. I did it quite often up until I got caught that first time. I guess the classes I had to take made an impression because I have never done it once since then. They really drove home the point of what it would feel like to know that you killed or critically injured another person just because you thought you could get away with driving drunk. It just isn't worth it.
