I know I've asked more than once for someone to define "The Nebraska way" I know it's a general term we like to use to try to legitimize our own self uniqueness in a world of sports where it seems corruption and cheating has takin hold in where we dont partake. But anytime I ask for it to be truley defined, it becomes very difficult. All sorts of little things get thrown around. At the end of the, The Nebraska way is summed easily with "The winnning way". Same with the Bama way. Oklahoma way. Seminole way. We're not as unique as we want to be. And the point you make here is very spot on.

If you are referring to Kaz as the wife beater, that might be a little unfair to Bo as he was fired by the time Kaz was arrested so we don't know what Bo knew or didn't involving Kaz's issues.

To me that is an epic fail.

You can make mistakes, maybe not three, but owning up to them and facing them are just as important.

I realize he is ashamed of what he has done, but he should be. We support our coaches, as we should, and he does owe us an explanation for his actions.

I will stand by what Coach Riley does, but I truly feel he should be fired and it should happen immediately. 3 times being caught driving under the influence is 3 too many. And it would suggest he is very unlucky and caught every time, or there are a whole lot more times that he lucked out.

I am so tired of everyone having to have an excuse for their actions. I have never seen a bottle, or glass grab anyone and wrestle them to the ground forcing themselves on the individual. You choose to take the drink, the drug, pull the trigger, what ever. Mommy spanking you too much, daddy calling you names or the bully down the street did not do it. You did. Take responsibility, don't sneak out the back door. Own your actions.

If he is not fired, we will catch a little hell over it, but it is not that big of a story.

As to experience on this matter, grew up with alcoholic parents and two step fathers that were.

Lost my little brother to a drunk driver, that spent a whole three days in jail. I have very definite feelings about drinking and driving

It's quite possible that after pleading Not Guilty to the charges, his lawyer advised him to not walk out the front door and admit guilt. Just guessing.

Exactly. We like to put a lot on Bo in the hinsight game. Some deserved. Some probably not. But this is an instant of not. Sure we like to look back now that Bo is gone, knowing what we know, and how he burned the trail on his way out and say "heh. He had a wife beater on his staff. That's makes sense". But if you think about it before kneejerk like I do all the time, that's not the case. There are tons of rumors, some legitimized, some not, of reasons why past coaches "found another job" or stepped away from the program from Carl, to Sanders, Ekeler, etc. You could be pretty damn sure if Kaz showed these issues prior, something woulda been done.

Different scenarios because the offense occurred later. And not relevant.

We already talked about TO. You have your facts wrong. It's a bad idea going with a version of events based on a single prosecutor's press release.

Accepting this as true (it's not), why does that excuse a third DUI today?

People rationalize like this when in their gut they feel one way (that Williams should be fired) but they don't want that result, so they figure out ways to justify coming out on the other side.

TO's actions 20 years ago have zero bearing.

 
To me the Nebraska way was about not caring what the outside said (like when people tried to say NU's system was too old fashioned to beat Florida teams and that TO would never get over the hump). It was also about loyalty and integrity even when the decision was unpopular on its face. It was about really living up to the adage "in the deed, the glory." Pretty much, it was the application of stoicism to running a program and cheering for a program.

Personally, I think the "Nebraska Way" died in 2003 and I don't think the program or its fan base will really ever be the same after that.

No one is making an excuse for anybody. The point is that everybody (even Osborne) make stupid mistakes and that is not a reason to cast them aside if they are a good person and can be helped to make their life better and still contribute something good to the job. There are a lot of lessons and that our team can learn from this that will help them in life going forward.

Tom hid a gun in his desk for Abdul Muhammad, he wrote about it in his book. My facts are facts. You just deny and put your opinion out as fact.

Thats what you want to believe it means. And you can bet your a$$, that had Osborne never won titles, there wouldntve been all this "back to Nebraska way" stuff. And had Callahan or Bo won some sort of championship, it wouldve been restored in the blink of an eye. Winning. That's all it is. Just winning. We like to think as a fanbase we've won in some unique way. Like we took a harder road than most. Running game. Walk-ons, etc. When it's probably the exact opposite. We used those things cuz they were the best fit for us to make winning easiest. Running a program and cheering for a program is not stoic or special. it goes on everywhere. in every sport. You win, you get to keep going. you lose, youre out and we go in another direction. i think we're a bit blinded by the fact that we had the same coach for 25 years with consistent results, and think everything was alway hunky dory, and use that to legitimize this fictional Nebraska Way. When in fact, it wasnt always hunky dory, and on more than one occasion, that so called Nebraska Way almost died long before the Nebraska Way actually became what it is now perceived to be. If Osborne loses the Liberty bowl and gets fired, leaves for Colorado, or steps aside after 1990, and Nebraska doesnt win to nearly the tick that they did, then there is no Nebraska Way.
