Iowa Hate Week - Please post to show your love

You could really make a case for any of the Iowa/Minnesota/Northwestern trio as being your closest rivals in the Big 10 so far. Michigan State would have been an option if they hadn't been moved to the other division and Wisconsin could get there if you can win a few years in a row. If Iowa wins a close game this week then we become tied with a majority of the games being close. Not nearly enough data there to be meaningful, just a snapshot of how your first 6 years in the Big 10 have played out.

Lincoln for 18 now. Grew up in Iowa and went to Iowa. Like both teams but so far Nebraska is still 2nd

Get to put Iowa gear on my friends when we win and somehow ended up in a Nebraska cheerleading outfit a couple of years ago. That wasn't pretty. This information was in response to the chatter about who should be Nebraska's rival earlier in the thread. Just got me curious where Nebraska stood in relation to the rest of the Big 10 after 6 years.

Your struggles with the formatting (FIFY, google fixed pitch font) tipped me off to your origins. I believe there is hope for you. Another 18 yrs surrounded by the awesomeness that is Nebraska football should fully convert you

I think its more due to the fact that we intermingle with eachother more then any other fanbase. I have lived here my whole life and i know almost as many husker fans as i do Iowa fans. Husker fans are everywhere here. There are probably more Husker apparel on people here UNI which is the 3rd largest college here. That is where the rivalry comes from, it has nothing to do with any other sport other than football. Hawkeyes wanted to be Nebraska in the 90s and they got sick of it being shoved down there throat so every time they get a chance when we lose i heard about it. Even when we were in the big 12 i heard about it from them. But enough jibber jabber back to the hate. Ok Iowa citizens are stupid..............uhhhh i mean....... Iowas women are ugly........ummmm...Iowas weather is crappy.............................The color Yellow is Stupid.

I kind of wonder if the rivalry has a gradient as it goes across Nebraska. I'd like to hear someone from Scottsbluff, North Platte, Alliance etc. chime in on what they think of the Iowa rivalry. I work in Omaha, live in Lincoln, and even 50 miles down the interstate there seems to be a difference. In Omaha their are Hawkeyes in the next cubicle, Lincoln, no so much....I can't help but think it dwindles as you go west.

Whatever the case I do love this thread it's really funny.

I think this is largely an Omaha-driven thing. I get there are outliers so don't say "I live in BFE and I hate Iowa." We get that you exist, Iowa Hater guy.

For the most part, nobody outside of Omaha or South Sioux or any other border town has very little interactions with Iowegians. That's why we're so "meh" when it comes to this rivalry. A non-representative portion of the population has a stick up their bum about Iowa.

The gradient is true across both states. Eastern Iowans really don't give much thought to Nebraska. Western 1/3 however, kind of loathes us entirely.

A close friend is an Iowegian, and a Hawkeye.

"We don't have a rival" is pretty much another way of saying, "We haven't been good enough".

A rivalry needs a catalyst to heat things up. One team should break another team's heart and ruin a potentially great season on occasion. Would be best if those games had national title, or even conference title implications. We had a chance to spoil Iowa's "best ever" season last year, but couldn't do it. We weren't good enough and haven't been for a while.

Dear Iowa Fan, please be careful and don't freeze to death while camped out in the Walmart parking lot for Black Friday door buster sales. Not sure why or how, but I'm sure you have loved ones that care.

I was born and lived close to Omaha for a long time and no one I knew cared about the Hawkeyes' existence. I don't remember a single discussion about them except the two times that we played them. It's almost exclusively an Omaha thing.

It isn't only an Omaha thing. I grew up in Decatur, town of 400. We had a bridge over the river that let those damn Iowans loose in our lovely state. Now I live in Omaha, and they are everywhere what with 3 or 4 bridges here...they are taking over!!

In all seriousness, nearly half of the population of the state lives in the Omaha metro so if it is a big deal here then it is a big deal. (about 850,000 out of 1.86 million)

It's big in Des Moines because there are a lot of Nebraska fans that live there.
