I know him fairly well and he's a genuinely nice guy, but he has a huge problem dealing with other people's opinions. He will often not back down and just keeps pushing, and pushing, and pushing until the other person gives up or ignores him.

Since you know him personally (and I don't), I won't speak too disparagingly. However, I don't think his football hot takes were all that hot. As a reporter, he clearly had insider information, but I wasn't always impressed by his synthesis. Glad he found a gig at Hudl. That's a good company.
