The People v 84Husker

I didn't say *I* devalued it, I said I didn't want to run it anymore because people would start to devalue it.I'm quite certain I know what I said in post #161. You don't need to keep trying to tell me what it means.
Interesting, but you are correct!
In short, if I may; You decided to get away from it (not devaluing it) but because others were going down the path of devaluing it.

(Was Part of the reason)

So the cause, or meaningful representation of the elections that once was, dwindled, and you seen the writing on the wall that posters were not taking it as serious as it once was, thus, you had better things to do or not? Yet, you are asking me why I am involved knowing that I am not the first to feel there should be no sleep lost about 84 getting a nomination.

OK, thanks Knapp, again, I respect the heck out of you, but I am on a differnt page I guess. I was not trying to offend, just stating that things have a level of priority or value that matches the situation.

Edit: I didn't quote you. You quoted me in post #169.

Yes, once again you are correct. But I believe you were directing your comment " If it's just a joke to you, why are you involved" towards me, to which I responded directly! So you directed towards me first!

No, you may not. I'm not "getting away from it," I'm simply not devoting the same time & energy to it. I'm still nominating people, I'll still vote, and I'm still making the icons for it. I'm not especially gifted with Photoshop so making those takes a not-insignificant amount of time for me. I gladly donate that time to the board because I respect the good people here enough to do something for them. In much the same way that I donated my time as a Mod, I donate my time to make Santa-hat avatars for anyone who wants one, and I donated my time to take extensive pictures of the East Stadium renovation so people who don't live in or near Lincoln could see the project as it developed.

I value the members here enough to do that, and *I* attach that value to them. That others don't do these kinds of things means nothing. They can be members as they see fit, I'll be a member as I see fit.

But that's the thing. You don't get to choose what level of priority or value others attach to something.

It's a pretty simple concept. If it's not something you're into, respect your fellow members enough to not make a joke of it.

EDIT - and so we're clear, I respect you, too. I wouldn't bother talking to you & responding over and over if I didn't. I just disagree with you.

OK Knapp!

Look, you have done a bunch of great things for HB, to which you should be appluded for. I appreciate many of the things you mentioned above. I again say Jeezus, to the point that if I had been the initial poster who nominated 84, I could see you coming unhinged (well maybe not unhinged but directing your frustration towards me).

Yep, I guess I do not have the right to share my perception or comments about how silly this is, when looking down at it from 30,000'.

Obvioulsy I did not see (or value as others might) how much effort, time and energy you placed on putting this election process together for the HB members.

Can I nominate you for something? I know you retired but your obvioulsy still very vested, and I think there should be a new position added to the list. "Athletic Director". I say this in all seriousness.

That bottom line is what I was trying to relay to Rike. To me, that provides enough to keep me coming back and getting punished by you!
Edit; That last set of words will get used in a thread I am sure. My bad!

The way I look at it, the starting lineup thread is kind of the same thing as the look-a-like thread nowadays. It used to be one of those things that was really fun when it started, but now nobody really pays attention to it. Look-a-like thread used to be pages long when I first started posting here. Now you're lucky to get 10 responses. All good things come to end, I guess. The only "tradition" threads that are still popular are the prayer thread, the what did we learn thread, and the game thread.

I'd post in the look-alike threads but I barely go into the football forum anymore. It's been taken over by people bashing coaches, ripping on players, throwing fits in the game threads (which are unreadable). That forum isn't much of a great advertisement for Husker Fans anymore. It's really too bad, because that forum is why I originally joined HuskerBoard.

Those threads still exist, but the mire you wade through for them almost isn't worth it.

To continue on this tangent (it's the 'shed, does it matter?) we could stamp out the bashing of coaches, complaining, and overall negativity (we try to nuke the player stuff from orbit), but this place would be a ghost town.

Nebraska just needs to win, and show actual signs of getting better, not just reverting to the mean.

This place would NOT be a ghost town. Great example of this: Buckeye Planet, where ANY bashing of players, coaches or anything Buckeye earns you a two-week suspension, zero debate. Go over there and try it. Really.

What they have is a thriving community of Ohio State fans, far greater participation than here at HB, and a site where nary a discouraging word is heard about their team.

It absolutely can work. It just takes work.

But it's easy to be all sun shine and rainbows when you've been consistently in the top 10 for a long time, and even when you were down and out it was only a couple years.
I assume criticism is still allowed over there, so what exactly constitutes bashing?

I wonder how many 2-week suspensions were issued after the 31-0 drubbing? Couldn't have been pretty.
