As my grandpa used to say, "Right's right and wrong's a shitass."Claiming there are no truths is a copout. You choose to be uninformed and pretend "we just can't ever know the truth because everyone has a different opinion," fine. But don't pretend a fact isn't a fact.
Don't pretend every biased piece of information is fact.
I didn't, and your inability to discern that is your problem.

I also like how you use the word uniformed when referring to people who disagree with you. Another reason I steer clear of P&R.
I used the word "uninformed" to refer to people who choose not to be informed. Keep up.

I agree with Knapp on this one.

Who the heck do we believe if we can't get truth from anything? Are we just supposed to give up on seeking out any objective truth?

It's just laziness. "Everyone is biased so we can't trust anyone" is another way of saying, "I'm too lazy to verify anything through multiple sources so I'm not going to try."

The problem isn't that there's no objective truth, it's that you can't or won't find it, or when you DO find it, it goes contrary to your biases so it makes you feel better to believe that nothing can be factual.

Because you want to be uniformed?
Because I don't have time to go fact check everything. Not that I want to be uninformed but a lot (not all) of what the P&R forum has to offer is ultimately opinion. The thing about that is that no one is going to be changing opinions because of another. They might, but not at a high percentage.
Kind of like the whole attendance at inauguration. The pictures taken comparing the two were 6 hours apart (Reportedly, which again, never when to go find out for sure. Just heard the report) Yet, we had multiple people making a big fuss about it. Those same people are the ones that always jump on any sort of right wing news. I mean, whatever....I guess. I'd still go have a beer with most of you if it came down to it. I would actually love the opportunity to.

Two of the people I disagree with most on the political side of things here on the board I had a heck of a time with at Brewski's in Lincoln. I respect them and disagree with them. I have no ill wishes toward them and generally like hearing/seeing what their up to.

The best thing about football is that it unifies those that split on politics.

I Understand. Most weeks I don't have a lot of time to read things in detail, and somethings you have to take at face value, but always consider the source.
The only people who won't be changing opinions are those who are too stubborn to want to change. Plenty of people in there, including myself, have come away with new views and opinions based on things discussed in P&R. Hell, a couple staunch conservatives think Obama wasn't that bad of a President afterall now. I understand why increasing taxes on the upper middle class buisness owners aren't a great idea now. There's plenty to learn if you're willing and want to challenge yourself. I'd encourage you to give it a try. Yes it can be extremely frustrating, but worth it I think.
Because of you bastards and our conversations about religion, I no longer consider myself religious. A lot of the questions that were asked, I couldn't answer and it made me think and reconsider many things.

Same. Those conversations, in which I for years took a staunch pro-Christian stance, eventually helped me come to the realization that there is no "god." It was an uncomfortable truth to face and I resisted it for years. But being forced to think about my belief (and an exhaustive, two-year cover-to-cover study of the Bible) helped me face reality. It's tough.

Yes, very tough.

Boys, we got another one!

But also don't pretend facts can be "biased". Opinions, arguments, conclusions, can all be biased, but not facts.

Depends on how one interprets the fact in question.

Did you even read what he just wrote?

The problem with "fact checking" is that the internet has made it incredibly easy to find facts that support both sides of a debate. It's fact checking "fact checks" that is actually difficult and not usually worth the effort.
This is a lie you've been told by people who don't want you to check facts. It isn't difficult at all. Reputable sources are easy to find.
Theres really very few reputable sources around any more. Every one has their own bias and leans. Unreadable and unwatchable stuff.
This is another copout. People seem to operate under the notion that news was once perfect or infallible. That's never been the case. Stick with the news sources who hire real journalists and fact check them amongst one another.

If someone can't do that then they simply choose to be uninformed, and as an American, that's a pretty sh**ty approach to life.

Defamation, libel and slander are still very real things the real media outlets have to worry about. Maybe more people should consider that before they start suggesting some or even most of what an entity publishes is "fake."

Yup. People believe what they want to believe, regardless of facts.
