Let the kool aid flow

I'm sick of all the negativity in the recent topics, and looking for the rush associated with a Kool Aid high, so I created this thread looking hoping others will add.

The defense has chance to be very good. With the new scheme and coach, it should be exciting. Wisconsin's defense (which will be similar to what we will run) looked great over the last couple years, and I think we have great talent to work it. Lock down corners? Yup. Dominate stout DL? Yup. Aggressive hard hitting and quick lbs? Yup. We have at least as much talent (I think more) then Wisconsin has had, and that could make a big difference in close games.

On offense, yes we lose a lot of talent, but not in the areas that are key to Riley's offense. The QB will be far more accurate and that is the key for his offense to work. Stud rbs? We have a bunch that should be able to consistently move the ball. WRs? In Riley's system a premier wr is not key (except in one position) -- just someone that can consistently catch the ball. And considering most if the dbs we will be facing, we will most of the time be equal or better. One shifty wr is a big part of taking the offense to the next level, and we certainly have that.

Hell yes!

I'm particularly optimistic about the defense. We've got everything necessary to be really good except a pass rusher, but the 3-4 helps to some extent with the ability to bring different guys as the 4th rusher and the secondary should be good to help the pass rush.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I see posters saying negative crap about Riley. But at Nebraska he has the luxury of being more of a a CEO type manager, instead of a hands-on coach. And I think that role suits Mike Riley perfectly. I'm real high on both coordinators--Langsdorf and Diaco. I can't remember the last time I liked both our coordinators as much as these guys. I think we've done a pretty good job at recruiting the past couple of years. Seems like we've brought a lot of speed and athletic ability in these past couple of recruiting classes. I'm a bit less certain about our O-line and D-line.

All in all, I'm drinkin' the Kool-Aid! GBR!!

I did an assessment in a thread awhile back but let's take it position group by position group

Trending ⬆⬇↔

QB ⬆ safe to say we are trending up at QB with more depth and a guy at the head of the pack Archie Manning seems to think the world of.

RB ↔ we lose Newby, but with the emergence of Tre Bryant and development of Wilbon I don't think we see any drop off here

OL ⬆ we lose what was considered the weak link of our line, get a major player back from injury and add 4 scholarship players to the depth chart. Things are looking up

WR ⬇ here we have our first drop off. I think Stan, DPE and Spielman will produce, but depth is an issue.

TE ↔ we lose a very talented player who didn't see the field a ton due to injury last year. While we don't have any proven tight ends I think we will see better production from this group as a whole this season

DL ↔ lost our best player from this group a year ago, but I think moving to a 3 man front will help. I also think we have some talented young players who could step up and do very well

LB ⬆ we lose a leader at this position, but I love our young talent here. Sprinkle in the fact we have some experienced guys here as well and some great coaches working with this group and I think we are looking at an improved unit.

DB ⬆ what can I say, this may be the most talented group on the team. Depth is a little thin but we really have some playmakers back there and have made moves to have as much talent on the field as possible. Things are looking great here.

To me, looking at this team, we are on the up and up. I really do think the talent we have will lead us to Indy this year, and if Lee really is all that and a bag of chips, we may well win the damn thing.

I'd agree with all of this but TE. Loosing Carter and Cotton will hurt and I would have that position trending down. Although the production might not have been there in the form of receptions, both were above average blockers - which I think will be a weak point for the TEs currently on the team.

That is fair and I was honestly very close to choosing down as well. My logic was somewhat based on Carters limited playing time last year but I agree we will miss him as well as Sam Cotton in the run game.

Thank you for this - I've just started blocking the people who I see post more than two negative things. It's not even the season for gods' sake!

Question, if we win in Indy do we make a playoff appearance?
I hope so, but right now I would say probably not. I think OSU has that spot locked up until further notice.

Although, a conference title and Rose Bowl would be stupendous.

has Nebraska ever been in/won a Rose Bowl? I'm assuming not so that would be a nice addition to the Husker trophy case.
To my knowledge 1941 loss to Stanford in NU's first bowl game ever, and 2001... well... you know.
