There'll be a larger pool of resources to be used to get the assistants Frost wants and put together a group that he thinks is necessary to maximize success. There very well could be more alternates to the staff than is believed.Regarding people’s suggestions of former players and Blackshirts being selected for Frost’s staff — look, just because you played, doesn’t mean you can coach. Not all players are leaders and most must be lead. Plus, you don’t just jump into coaching at this level. Seriously, some of the suggestions are mind boggling — players that have zero coaching experience !?
Second— look at who coaches hire for their staff : other coaches within their network. Our previous 3 coaches did it, Frost will too. Look at his current staff— they are all linked to him.
Coach Dewitt (assoc. head coach, LB’s, Special Teams)- was UNI’s d- coordinator after Frost.
Chinander (DC) coached at UNI and Oregon with Frost
Austin (OL) grad assistant at Oregon, played at NU
Dawson (DL) connected to Frost through Chip Kelly
Held (RB) former teammate of Frost, 17 years in coaching
Verduzco (QB) coached at UNI with Frost
Raymond (director of player dev)
same position at Oregon when Frost was there.
Dillon (player personnel) from Oregon also
Ruud (qca) player at NU, no coaching experience
Haines (off. GA) played at Oregon when Frost coached there
Duval (strength) was at NU when Frost played here
That leaves 3 coaches on his current staff that he didn’t have ties to. And 2 of them were at UCF previously.
Connect the dots. Scott won’t be making any big name, splash hires for assistants.
But those guys are on the radio every week and sometimes every day in the case of DB. Why can't they be constructively critical like Bishop, Severe, or Bahe?Verzal, Benning , Moore — grain of salt. Their opinion of Frost from 20 years ago has no bearing today and why they even bring it up, who knows. On a team of 150 guys, there are 150 personalities and they won’t all get along.
The past is the past and everybody has grown up.
Wow...even better. Casper was awesome. That' cool....the snake, branch, biletnikoff, Hendricks, tatum.......Monte Johnson is, so close. Great guy. Loved watching him play for Oakland in the 70’s when I was a kid.
Agreed. What was even cooler was seeing his two National Championship rings from ‘71 and ‘72 plus his two Super Bowl rings from the Raiders. Also, talking with him about the Ghost to Post game where he made 22 tackles. Very humble man who loves TO and the school.Wow...even better. Casper was awesome. I really like to hope that Scott Frost learned T.O.s method of being "nice" but being tough and demanding at the same time. I've heard countless stories of players saying that he'd call the into the office and talk about how disappointed he was in their behavior, performance, attitude, leadership or what ever. They all felt they'd rather take a severe beating than feel they'd disappointed him. Can't wait to see how it all shakes out these next several years. And I am sure that Scott Frost, if named head coach, still has a lot of growing to do as well.Another day slips buy with silence from our AD and next HC.
This is an amazing display of professionalism and discipline by Moos and Frost.
Imagine when these traits begin to take hold in our football team.
The sheer physicality exhibited by NU in the clips with Frost are non-existent today....Obviously highlights, but the from the OL to receivers to even Frost were flat out laying wood.....5 minutes ago, JimmyBuckets said:
Went to school with a huge tight end from back in the day who went on to play for Atlanta. He was a gentle giant in college (and no good at pool). Was a customer of his later in life. It is amazing how much of a profound effect Coach T.O. had on so many of those players. Life long effects.Agreed.
