When I was in journalism school a professor told some of us, “you sports guys need to learn news too.” I said “you news people need to learn sports too.” She said I was wrong.Can you believe I once put “hog-molly” in a script when I worked at a tv station, and the anchor refused to say it because it was “far too offensive”?
Granted this was the same anchor who said I couldn’t say “finds a man in the flats” because “nobody knows what that means”. Translation: they didn’t know what it means.
You can always tell when a news reporter/anchor doesn’t know a thing about the sports story they are covering.
