Tangent Thread - 2018 Edition

I always appreciate it when my neighbor points out the speck in my eye.

Because Christ's teachings are heavily socialist. He decries avarice, he preaches tolerance, he exhorts his followers to give up worldly things, to help the poor, the sick, the less fortunate.  Selfless giving, loving and understanding... these are the very basics of Christianity.  Why wouldn't I be amazed that people who claim to be Christian struggle with these things?

This is like saying I shouldn't be amazed at someone who avers that they love hamburgers above all other foods, but who wants their hamburger on a long bun split down the middle, with the meat in tube form and tasting vaguely of bologna, covered in relish & mustard. That's not a hamburger, that's a hot dog. Wouldn't you kinda be amazed that someone claims to love only hamburgers in that circumstance?

I don't think it's too high of a hurdle to expect self-declared Christians to follow the teachings of Christ. Do you?

Thanks for replying as expected. Maybe I should take the easy road, claim to not believe in anything and simply throw darts at those who aren't perfect like me.

You throw your share of darts. Don't play the victim.

That is baffling, like when self-declared non-Christians and non-believers completely embrace socialism and the primary message of Jesus. It's a real headscratcher.

As usual the point was severely missed.

doesn't want to have an honest discussion or is too mired in preconceived notions about others

But yeah, comments like "it's a real headscratcher" or "thanks for replying as expected" is just me taking a cheapshot and throwing my own darts.

Kindly stop. Such things belong in the Woodshed. If you can't have a civil conversation, maybe it's not the conversation that's at fault.

Oh this is just great. Now I can't even tell if you are joking or have completely lost it. Are you serious that you think THOSE comments belong in the woodshed?

Should I go back and pick out your similar comments and propose that "If you can't have a civil conversation, maybe it's not the conversation that's at fault"?  C'mon man.

You admitted to "taking cheap shots" and "throwing darts."  I got my only warning point for such remarks. I'm just telling you what I've been told.

Most people didn't take Donald Trump seriously in 2015. Look where that got us.

You mean, didn’t and still don’t.

But here we are ‘Makng America Great Again’.  :D

If Ron Brown was making decisions or statements, that showed his treatment of others (playing time, pass or fail, good guy or bad guy) was based on whether or not someone subscribed to his religious beliefs, then I could see people getting amped up, but I have never heard of him doing this. To be honest, I am good with hire, but not ecstatic about it.

This will die down in the next few weeks, and will be a distant memory, if we ever get back to being a contender.

I guess I am tired of every time we get something to be a little excited about (surrounding Huskers), someone has to be a negative Nancy and throws sh*t, just because they want everyone else, to wallow in the same sh*t they call life.

Agreed.

I wish for everyone to have the gift of empathy, so they could feel a glimpse of what it's like for others and not view life through their own lens. Take this same feeling and extrapolate that to an LGBTQ person's desire to just live their life without people trying to take their rights away all the time.

I imagine nearly that exact sentiment was expressed by some of our LGBTQ neighbors when Brown testified in 2012.

I get that. I can’t tell you how someone from the LGBTQ feels on a daily basis, but I do not think there is any indication that RB treats or would treat them any different than he does a hetrosexual. His belief is what it is, and as a follower of Jesus, I believe he was trying to fulfill his duty, to go out and preach the gospel of the Lord.

As for my feelings or perspective, yes, there are those who deal with cruelty and descrimantions daily, who I have empathy for, and I can still preach to them what I believe is right or wrong. I do not force anyone to come to my side of thinking, nor do I ever try to alienate them for their position. I don’t go out of my way to mingle with any, but there are several who I would call friends. Not close, but carry on civil conversations. You are right, no one can say they know, when they don’t wear their shoes.

UPDATE: Found out the other day that these are available at Custom Pack in Hastings!

Didnt know what a crispito was so looked it up.

Really good for a quick, probably unhealthy snack. I don’t like too many kinds of these cheap frozen burritos but the spicy picante is awesome.
