I suppose if it was assualt it would be more traumatizing and hurtful to relive that moment. If Washington was aware, that does make things worse. But who knows if he knew.

It matters most in terms of sensationalism for the media reports: talking about sexual assault and revenge porn makes it especially intriguing, even though those phrases are not being used in the charges. Putting "Child Porn" in the headlines raises the stakes even further, as the notion of child porn creates a much different connotation than what actually happened.

This is going to sound incredibly heartless and I give this as a spontaneous opinion not knowing anything more than any of you. But of course she now says it wasn't consensual. We live in a society now that encourages the notion that if you do something and later on regret it, you can cry rape and get revenge. Honestly I hope she is lying because even if you take Washington out of the picture, this is about to ruin a few kids lives if she is lying. And I say I hope she is lying because I would rather the sex on film be consensual and regret driven than it actually being a rape video. Neither are good by any means.

With the way society is I wouldn't put it past her or the parents. After all we all know men can't get raped.

It's a normal reaction for people to think this way. And I have no opinion one way or the other in this specific incident if she is truthful or not. But we should always be reminded of the difficulty of coming forward for women in situations like this. Look at how long Larry Nassar was allowed to prey on women before they began to speak up.

Whether this particular situation was assault or consensual, we all agree that our society needs to empower people to be able to speak up in case of assault or rape.
Re: Nassar - the horrifying thing is, they didn't wait to speak up. Many girls spoke up immediately, and for years. It's not that they didn't speak up, it's that they weren't listened to. There is a LOT of blame in the Nassar situation. So many unnecessary victims.

This is a possibility. And I'm not saying I don't believe her, because there are tons of details we just don't know. There are plenty of reasons for a sexual assault victim to not press charges or pursue the matter all the way through. But...
This reminds me of a local case in my neck of the woods. It was a case of sexual harassment and unwanted advances/touching, in which the allegations were brought forward a couple of years after the fact. The investigation did not find enough evidence to substantiate harassment or that the advances were even unwanted at the time. Well, a couple of years later, the complainant goes to a couple of media sources to tell her story, about the cruel injustice of it all and how the school did not believe her. She told the media that everything that had happened was non-consensual. However the school is certainly not going to talk to the media about this case or comment on their investigations, so only one side of the story is heard. The evidence in the investigation did not conclude that the events of yesteryear were non-consensual. But she can tell the public otherwise and that is the only thing that will be heard.
So, in the current case, we know what was described in the video, we know that no sexual assault charges were filed, and we know that she was expelled from school with no apparent controversy that we know of. That is an interesting set of circumstances. It does not mean that a sexual assault did not occur, and it does not mean that she is lying. It just means that there are lots of scenarios and we don't really know anything.
However, I don't think any of the above has anything to do with Maurice Washington's ultimate disposition, either.

I would never have imagined that a doctor would abuse me or manipulate me so badly.”
After years of making excuses for what she calls Nassar’s “weird” behavior during the treatment sessions, in July 2015 — three years after winning three medals at her first Olympics — she says she finally realized that Nassar had been sexually abusing her. Raisman says she received a call from USA Gymnastics president Steve Penny, who asked her to speak to an investigator who would be coming to Raisman’s home. He wouldn’t tell her what the visit was about.

I didn't say they ALL spoke up immediately. Some sure did. The horror is that they weren't listened to, or were shut down.

This isn't how the world works, there's no evidence this is how the world works. None of the literature supports this notion. In fact, the literature says that the reason people don't report rape is for exactly what has been going on in this thread. People are arguing about semantics, questioning if she just wants to save face or not, saying that oral sex can't be forced. We are all the problem here and we use it as further justification to discredit the victim.

I'm embarrassed by this thread. It's not a good look for us. Even more so, that the nature of the crime as it's relevant to Nebraska football has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SEX. It has to do with the video and sharing the video.
