I just didn't understand the "walk back" part of your statement.

I think he was just saying it's going to be somewhat awkward for the people who are chastising Washington now if/when he doesn't get kicked off the team.  Are they going to cheer for him if he doesn't get kicked off the team and continues to do well?  Or are they going to continue to hold the opinion he's not a good person and that he shouldn't be playing?  I think most will probably go with the former, hence walking back their comments.

I thought he should be gone from the team.  I've since softened that stance to 4-6 games suspension.

When does he plan on returning to California to face the charges? Are Nebraska lawyers allowed to represent people in other states?  Does he actually have to be in court, or is he just going for questioning?

A lot this. Say you're of the opinion Washington has proven himself unable to represent the team. But there he is, wearing the uniform, representing the team. Something's gotta give there, right?

His Nebraska attorney could represent him in California if he is admitted to the California Bar or he could file a motion to appear pro hac vice.  Would probably be smart to hire another attorney in California that is familiar with California criminal law.

It's going to be interesting to see how people react to Washington staying on the team. Several people drawing lines in the sand that are going to be difficult to walk back.

It's just their opinion, why would they have to walk it back?

I don't think what knapplc is saying is obtuse in any way. We have several fans who want him off the team. What if he isn't kicked off the team? What do those fans do? That's the question he's posing.

I can already say what they're going to do with almost complete certainty - the vast majority of them are going to forget MW's legal troubles and scream their throats dry the first time he scores a touchdown in 2019. It boils down to elitist posturing.

I remember towards the beginning of this thread, a fan (don't remember who and don't really care enough to go look) stated that he won't be a fan of Nebraska anymore if Mo is on the team next year.

I would assume that person will either be walking that back or selling some Husker clothing come fall if he's on the team.

I can name you about 20 Huskers from the last 20-25 years who should've never played a down at Nebraska if we're saying what Mo is accused of doing constitutes as low enough character to be removed from the team. And those are just the ones I can name.

Absolutely, so can I, but it's not the 90s or even the 00s anymore.

I'm not saying he should go to jail or not play football again.  What I'm saying is that in my opinion IF he is guilty of what he is accused, he should not play football at the University of Nebraska again.  Doesn't matter to me if the legal penalty is only a slap on the wrist.

I think it's more a lack of options than "elitist posturing." We don't have any control over the punishment here, and for most fans I'd say whether they want him off the team or not, this isn't so big an issue that they would stop being fans. You can wish he wasn't on the team, but does that mean you can't be excited when the team scores?

As people have pointed out countless times we don't have all the details, but I don't think continuing to support a team with a player you want off the team is inherently hypocritical. I never really cheered for Alex Lewis since he bit the crap out of an air force cadet and I wish he had not been on the team, but he was and I'm still going to cheer for the team.

It's gross that you're attempting to oversimplify this and ignore relevant details.

a) He likely didn't know it was a video of an alleged sex assault. No one else viewing it, including the police and the school, seems to have come to the conclusion it was a video of sex assault.

b) Even the law differentiates between the punishments for child porn depending on how old you are in many states (including Nebraska, btw). I'm sorry if this rationalization is gross to you, but an 18 year old having a video of his ex girlfriend when she was 15 that he received when he was 16 is not the same as a 60 year old having child porn videos of 8 year olds. But you're lumping them together by saying it's gross to add nuance to the discussion and that "child porn sex assault" should be the end of it.

People need to stop saying this is something every high school kid does. 

Sending nudes, which they shouldn't be doing, is completely different than child porn sex assault videos. 

Even if it was consensual it's still very different then what you are trying to rationalize it as.

You are aware that there are "Send Nudes" gifs that creatively display ways to spell out "send nudes".  It is naive to think that teenagers aren't passing around nude photos.   As a parent of teenagers and a former teacher, you would be surprised at the things you come across at school.  Unfortunately now it is all electronic so it travels much faster.  Sounds like someone is living in a bubble.

Personally, no. I think it's harsh but honest.

If someone thinks he should be kicked off the team, but is going to have little to no problem cheering for him in the fall if he isn't kicked off the team, that's fairly hypocritical. It has an air of trying to sound morally incorruptible while ultimately being the exact opposite.
