Maurice Washington Faces Charges

I wonder how much cache Frost is going to spend to keep him on the team. Probably not a lot locally, but nationally might be a different story.

I don't care. Anybody that thinks he deserves any punishment, given what we know so far, isn't being reasonable. I don't care about placating dumb people. Child pornography charges in this case are ridiculous. Revenge porn charges are only reasonable if it was an actual sexual assault and not simply predicated on her being of an age she couldn't give consent. If she was just being free and easy with it, I don't find too much wrong with throwing that back in an ex-girl friend's face. If it was actual assault and he knew it, then he's a scumbag in my book. Then he deserves some form of team punishment. Worst case right now, he should apologize to the team for doing something stupid. Anyway, that's where I'm at with it. You guys can talk all you want about what is and isn't legal in California. IDC.

Do we know exactly where he is right now?  Is he back in California?  If so, if he misses enough school, his status on the team might be affected by that no matter what.

I was wondering that too. If this causes him to miss next season he might feel he needs a fresh start and transfer.  I believe that is one reason for Moos’s statement of support.

Well, if he's found guilty of the charges, then he absolutely deserves some sort of punishment, but that's to be determined.

Those decisions are really easy to make in hindsight. Seems some want to get ahead of the curve and boot MW before we have any of the facts. So it goes.

Except my reasons for it being a bad idea have nothing to do with what I know after the fact. People who drag women down flights of stairs shouldn't be allowed to play for Nebraska.

What Washington did isn't anything close to that so the decision is more difficult.

I should note, although I've said it before, I think Osborne is a really good person and he didn't make the decision for selfish reasons. We would've destroyed every team in our path without Phillips.

I hate the narrative that Osborne did it because he wanted to win. You're right, LP wasn't needed on that team, I believe Osborne when he said he did it, because he thought it was LP's best chance of getting his life straightened out.

I don't recall anyone saying they wouldn't still be a Husker fan if Washington didn't receive the punishment they think he deserves.

I thought he should be gone from the team.  I've since softened that stance to 4-6 games suspension.  If Frost decides anything less than that, I'm still a fan of Nebraska football.
I'll admit I was one who said it would be difficult to remain a fan of the team of MW was still on the team; although I did qualify it with him having to know that she was 15 at the time.

So, one player makes a stupid mistake of sending a girl her own video back not knowing it wasn't on the up and up before sending (allegedly), and you're off the bandwagon if he stays on the team?

What do you mean, her own video? I don't think she had possession/control of this video.

.  I was agreeing with your post and making the point to macroboy that stuff like this happens all of the time and is now a part of adolescent culture

Well yeah, but when kids get caught sending nudes without the subject's permission, there are serious consequences -- like getting kicked out of school.
