Yea if that one swipe was the worst of it, I’m not sure why the cops were even called, other than her being intoxicated. Her response also wasn’t the greatest.

But let’s be honest here, put the shoe on the other foot and see all the news outlets, politicians and talk show guys respond if instead the headline was: 

81 year old black obama supporter with blm shirt on attacked by white 19 year old in target parking lot- fight over blm shirt 

be honest- what would the narrative be and how widespread would the coverage be? would there not be Coast to coast outrage and publicity and a call to action? Wouldnt this man be interviewed and be the face of oppression? 

The lesson is there are a few idiots on both sides

yet the mainstream media, politicians and talk show guys  makes a huge deal about the assault on one side while it’s crickets on the other 

very telling

This story was probably neglected from the media for the same reason almost all of the above hate crimes were ignored by the media: there are a lot of bad things that happen everyday and the media can't cover them all.  They usually latch on to "high profile" or "viral" cases.

The media bias is towards whatever will draw more attention and viewers and clicks.

In that case, an old MAGA guy getting punched by a kid will not be as much of a news story as a minority being attacked by a white person. Of course that's true. Moving on.

why would an 81 year old white guy being attacked by a Hispanic male somehow be less heinous  or newsworthy than an 81 year old black guy being attacked by a white person?

I don't think this has anything to do with it.

With the kids in Washington, you had a kid who appeared to be taunting an elderly minority with a bunch of other kids behind him egging him on.  This went viral with actual video of it.  This went viral BEFORE news networks, talk shows, late night...etc. ever even mentioned it.  The reason THEY mentioned it was because it went viral.

Here, you have nothing other than a police report.  You know what?  There are LOTS of situations where idiots do mean or disrespectful things to minorities that don't get blown up on national news.  There are LOTS of situations where liberal idiots do stupid things to MAGA people that don't get blown up on national news.  Why???  Because for whatever reason, they don't end up on social media being thrown around.

MAGA people are going to sit back and try their best to get offended by these things not blowing up on national news.  They can be snowflakes all they want.  Fact is, they are trying to make a problem up where there isn't one.

That could be true, but the existence of video footage is a FAR bigger variable in what gets news coverage.

Also, minorities are far more likely to be victims of hate crimes than Whites, which is probably the best proxy we have for this type of harassment, so it makes sense to cover the thing that happens at a higher rate. (It’s also a higher total in the case of hate crimes).

And ya, it’s not a great proxy, and it’s often not about race, but there’s no way to get data on people being harassed or slapped or whatever because most if it goes unreported. 

But back to the most important factor - they’re gonna go with the story that has video footage 99 times out of 100. If they have video footage of 7 minorities and 3 White people getting attacked, the story is gonna be about one of the minorities most of the time.

I think one of the most convincing and heartbreaking examples of why Black Lives Matter matters, is the discrepancy between how the entire media landscape covers missing children. When a white girl goes missing, it can dominate an entire news cycle. Several black or latina kids may go missing during the same news cycle and not register so much as a blip.

Imagine growing up knowing that America doesn't care if something horrible happens to you, but drops everything to find the little white girl.
