Are HB accounts being sold on the black market? Has Russia been playing the long conversation for almost a decade? Does @Redux sit down when he pees? We need answers, damnit!

How the hell else am I supposed to post on HB while in the bathroom?

I don't see any good in outing the person.

It's an interesting question. Is it better to let that person steer the conversation in a forum they don't actively participate in, or is it better to allow the people who actively participate in that forum the ability to discuss their topics without outside interference?

How is that person's contribution to P&R bettering that forum?  And would similar benefit be gained by, say, one of our Ohio State fan friends +1ing every post in Husker Football that makes the Huskers look bad?

how does someone +1ing every post of a different opinion steer a conversation? it's basically just an anonymous agreement. you have many posts that do the same thing, just agree with the post but dont add anything more than that. do those posts steer the  conversation too? and dont most people just gloss over the nonsense posts and focus on the posts that are worthwhile to the discussion? i just dont see how +1ing or eyerolling any post has an effect on any conversation.

I still say the reactions shouldn't be anonymous.

I mostly agree.  But it does subliminally sway what a person thinks of the post before even reading it.  The reactions are the first thing your eye is drawn to, then the text.  If it has a +1 you are already unknowingly expecting a quality thought and will be more likely to +1 it yourself.  If it has an eye roll, well you are unconsciously doing the same before you read the first word.

Edit*  f#&% all three of you with a rusty T Post

If you don't think hitting the reaction button on a post has an effect on the conversation, you're missing all the people complaining about eyerolls.

I mostly try to brush it off but it does irk me some days if I'm already annoyed.  Most the reason I've just been coming here less and less, the general mood is fairly negative right now.

@knapplc not missing the complaining at all. it's most likely a difference in how you and i perceive the +1's and eyerolls. personally i see no value you in them at all. i see a greater value in people actually responding to what you say.

@Redux i am swayed more by who posts. there is one poster i scroll past about everything they post. and oml that still takes like 5 min to get past one post.

i gave ya a +1 for the warm fuzzies you might receive from it.

I agree. But that opinion is the exception, not the rule.  Forum designers include these things because they work. They drive engagement and they provide a rewarding feeling for Users.  You can see it in action here on HuskerBoard every day.

Let the conservative troll have their empty fun. Us actually focusing time and energy on it means they're engineering the response they hope for. Better to just chuckle at how pathetic and immature it is and move on with substantive conversation.

I kid because I care, Redux. Please don't go!

Generally speaking, I'm not going to police reactions. I understand the engagement and general interest associated with them, but I also think some people experience far more handwringing about them than necessary.

Yes, I do believe it's diffident of this person to simply react and not actively partake in P&R, but I also don't believe it's that big of a deal.
