Maurice Washington Faces Charges

Posting anything by Saban is probably considered sacrilege in Husker Nation, but I always thought this was true of Osborne's handling of Lawrence Phillip's situation and I think it's true of Mo Washington's situation. I'd much rather Mo be around guys like Frost, Held, Walters, and Ron Brown than not.

I realize that what some people seem to want is some kind of multi-game suspension. But I think it's time to just let it go and wait until the court case is settled at this point.

It’s not a joke of a felony charge no matter how much you say so.
When the full context and circumstances are taken into consideration, and compared against what the law was created to combat, yes it is.

And I don't care if he's a football player or not. I'd feel the same way if it was some random kid from some random city.

What he did was morally wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean the felony charges and potential punishments that go with them are appropriate for this scenario.

But its not the first time someone has faced excessive charges that don't appropriately or justly define what happened. Some laws are trying to hit a moving target. This is why there are lawyers, judges, juries, plea bargains, and appeals to mitigate scenarios like this.

I think more people need to actually look at the damage some of these sex registry laws do. Maybe if they did, they wouldn’t get voted in over fear that anyone that votes against them is somehow anti-children.

Because that’s exactly how Megan’s law got voted in, and it’s been found in multiple studies over the years to increase crime. Yet more and more public registries for more and more crimes are being created.

Work smarter, not harder should apply to crime prevention, too.
And California sex offenders, no matter their offense, have to stay registered for life, including public urinators, underage sexters, and women who flash their boobs at concerts.

The punishment doesn't fit the crime

Sounds like a dramatic Iowa reporter with nothing to write about in the lame world of Iowa football and their lame coach. So let’s take a jab at frost over a joke of a felony charge. I hope Mo goes off against Iowa just to disturb their fan base

An excerpt:

A month before he coached his first game at Nebraska, Scott Frost spoke about a strong policy with recruits that made national headlines (via Omaha World-Herald).

“And I’ll tell you this right now — if there’s anything negative about women, if there’s anything racial or about sexuality, if there’s anything about guns or anything like that, we’re just not going to recruit you, period,” Frost said in July 2018. “Piece of advice for you — what you put on social media, that’s your résumé to the world. That’s what you’re trying to tell the world you’re all about. That’s how you’re advertising yourself. Be smart with that stuff.”

Thirteen months later, Frost kicked off Year 2 at Nebraska. At halftime, he announced that sophomore running back Maurice Washington would play in the second half.“—-

It felt and looked ham fisted because it was.

And I've told others, because of that statement by Frost, I wouldn't begrudge the coaches for dismissing MW from the team, because if the coaches were aware of what MW did when it happened, he might not have even been recruited in the first place. But preventing someone from entering your circle in the first place is different (and easier) than kicking someone out that's already been allowed in. Once someone has been brought into your fold, and you see first hand what kind of person they are and what kind of character they have, it's not unreasonable for an incident from their past to be seen as more of an anomaly rather than a definition of who they are, so attempts to help them redeem themselves instead of kicking them to the curb are understandable. But feel free to push the "win at all costs" narrative; I can't say there's no truth to it.

What MW did was morally wrong, but that doesn't mean the cries of "child porn" from the peanut gallery are accurate.

Yes, some of these laws do take things overboard. My brother in law was in a relationship and his girlfriend said he abused her and he gets on the sex offender list. She later comes clean and says she lied about it because she was upset with him. He's a super nice guy and she was verbally/emotionally abusive to him.

Even though she said she lied about it his name can't be taken off the sex offender list.
