FWIW, we were one of Patrick Payton's first offers. Which would have been basically a year ago. But he was almost completely under the radar as far as recruiting services talking about him being a Nebraska target. Until less than an hour before he committed.
So the staff has been all over him for a long time. But we knew basically nothing about it. Basically the same thing happened with Keyshawn Greene and a couple other Miami guys last year.
Something to keep in mind when the "we don't have any momentum in recruiting" comments surface.
I think the whole Covid-19 situation hurts Nebraska as much as any program in the nation. We only have a handful of in-state kids worthy of a scholarship. We rely heavily on getting out of state kids to campus in the spring. I see more kids staying closer to home this cycle. I don't see us getting a great class because of this.
I agree. And, to the bolded, this is why it's so frustrating for me to see close to Lincoln good players going elsewhere.
It's strange. It seems like something has happened in the last month to turn recruits off. I have to believe it's the inability to visit Lincoln, see what we have to offer and keep building the relationship with the team and staff.
