Think of how much time you could have saved everyone by listening.

What a world, what a world.
It’s a two-way street pal. If you are referring to a specific video, then mention it specifically. Point out the specific behavior. I was seeing a lot of general accusations thrown around and, in particular, the whiner guy video was posted and mentioned by at least two people decrying the behavior shown in it. I pushed back against that. And then you picked up the ball and ran with it making wild assumptions about me. So yeah, a bunch of time could have been saved by some also listening to me. It was never a blanket absolution of police behavior. All I can comment on is things I’ve seen or know about. Maybe we all need to slow down and consider what is actually the subject.

You made several comments about stuff you couldn't see or know about. You commented that you chose not to believe the police actions in the videos were unprovoked. What you're saying here is the opposite of what you've been doing.

I think I've gotten better at not jumping to conclusions with videos but there have been dozens where there were minutes of footage where the protesters didn't do anything other than maybe yell and then suddenly, inexplicably got gassed or shot with rubber bullets or attacked in some other way. That you can't believe your own eyes and just assume there's more to the story that would make these specific police officers look more justified is weird considering the reason we're going through this right now. After watching all these videos I still think police officers like this are in the minority, but I think you should trust your eyes more.

I made the same valid assessment of your behavior that several others are expressing.

It's not fun to be shown you were in the wrong. I get that. You make the problem worse by constantly pushing back on it.

Let me stop ya right there. You just did it too. You assumed that I watched similar videos to which you are referring, showing many minutes of protesters inexplicably getting fired upon. Read what I said. I can only base my comments on what I have seen or know about. I mean I'm not making sh#t up here. If I "chose" to do anything it was to form a judgement and opinion based on what I saw. Not what you saw. Not what Knapp saw but what I saw.

Since you all think you know what it is I specifically watched and saw, please tell me so we can all be on the same page here. Let me reiterate, I watched a lot of coverage on TV that was very confrontational, tug of wars over barricades, protesters throwing s#!t at police (who were standing still, in a line, not moving), protesters being instructed to move back but instead they advanced on the police etc. THEN I watched a few video snippets that showed mere seconds of people getting gassed or shoved or hit etc. Those snippets were too short and out of context to support the claim that they were unprovoked. So yeah, I may have created my own context for them and assumed they were likely provoked, like all the other coverage I had seen. IDK but I think we all do that type of thing all the time. The people claiming it was abuse did it, and assumed the police were at fault and I did it to some extent, assuming the mob was being the aggressors.

IMO, I am more correct in this situation. People claimed the video snippets showed unprovoked attacks. The videos I saw were not clear if they were provoked or not. So, their claims were in fact wrong, whereas my assumptions may have been wrong or right.

f#&% you. Stick that self righteous attitude right up your a$$. A few others are discussing it with me and being reasonable. One or two or three is not several except in your own delusional mind where everyone agrees with you all the time.

You have made no valid assessment of my behavior except finally figuring out you have no idea what videos I watched and we're basing my comments on. But go ahead self validate your trollish behavior in your mind. It's maybe the one thing you're very good at. Now f#&% off. You just made the list d!ckh#ad.

Again, you weren’t commenting on what you saw. You’re commenting over and over on things you didn’t see.

You can accuse people of doing the same thing, that’s fine. But you’re claiming to be doing something different and that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I will say I don’t understand some of the craziness of this conversation prior to this but I’m gonna chalk it up to people being stressed out and it being the Woodshed.

Wait...some of you actually read and watch every link and video posted?

HAHAHAHA.  That is f#&%ing awesome!

Okay, I should hear from you in about 10 hours.

Please don’t tell me what I’m more concerned with.
Sorry, I meant to write that what you seemed to be more concerned about....

I provided pushback over one incident that I knew to be misleading and several others that were not obvious. I will stand by my position on that one incident until the cows come home. And then as often happens here on HB, and more specifically P&R, some chose to portray me as the spokesman for every police transgression under the sun. I defended the police for incidents I felt it was deserved. And yeah, maybe I am a little more comfortable than some others with feeling that, in many of these situations, the mob and some reporters should recognize when things are going south and be more proactive about following instructions and requests. I guess I don’t exactly know how the police transition from extremely passive to a more aggressive approach. De-escalation makes sense but I’m also very much a realist. Everyone knows at some point, when the protesting has morphed to rioting, the police are going to start to push it and start clearing areas. I accept that for what it is. Once it is beyond that point, I get a little more heartless with my reaction. It’s who I am. But please don’t mistake that for defending indefensible actions. I know what they are and they sicken me just as much as you. But this is a message board where rhetoric, hyperbole and villainizing are used to create greater differences than really exist. So, if any of y’all need to act like I’m the bad guy, I can handle it.
I don't think were in much disagreement. But a lot of videos I've watched there were no rioters when the police acted.

However, there have also been a number of videos where the police have de-escalated the situation too. This needs to be the norm. If the police at least try to de-escalate the situation, then I can understand taking more drastic action.
