Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

And on this day, the Offending Posts thread got just a wee bit longer...
We should add: "don't play with fire if you don't want to get burned."

Couple points in my defense:

  • Said user explicitly asked how else he should be living his life.  Legally speaking, seems like they provided consent for said feedback
  • Frankly, a grown man asking another grown man how to live their life is embarrassing.  Where i'm from, we call this a gutter move.  my apologies if this was too harsh
  • If you want to drop some sarcasm and passive aggressiveness towards one's opinion, without actually offering anything of substance, that makes you nothing nothing but a straw man without a spine.  Real manly move to take offense in a statement without offering any of your perspective

I'm just saying those kinds of comments are never going to be OK around here, outside of the Woodshed.

I don't know if you'll get suspended, but your post and those quoting it is definitely going away.

Honest question, if we're going to police it to this extent, why are we ok with posts that inherently take this conversation to this place?  That response that triggered that post doesn't add anything of substance to this board and does nothing more than mocks the poster.

Feelin like 2011-2014 nebraska and a conspiracy theory the refs are out to get me here

There's a line there, though. Generally speaking you shouldn't use "you" statements. I can say, "There are idiots out there who think ________" and mostly be OK, but I can't say, "You're an idiot."  I got a warning for calling an idiot an idiot once. No one is immune! :D

That's not really a great extent to policing the boards, is it? The rule is "no personal attacks." It's something we should all be able to do.

lol, fair.  I always interpreted that rule as no proactive personal attacks.  I will be sure to frame my response to a post in a non direct and non threatening manner, despite said poster really asking for it

Is that literally a rule?

Note that P&R is a bit different than the rest of the board. But you're welcome to report any of my posts you feel has crossed a line.  :)

#1 - No Flaming/Trolling/Defamatory posts
Strong opinions are encouraged, and debate is not only welcomed – it's the main reason the board exists. If what you are considering posting doesn’t advance the issue being discussed – if it’s just taking a “shot” at someone – then either don’t post it, or phrase it in a way that meets the rules. There is absolutely no reason to verbally attack another user (aka flaming), and/or posting a message for the express purpose of generating a negative response (trolling). Any defamatory posts made against HuskerBoard, its representatives, or any other member may result in an immediate ban or temporary account disablement.Posts outside of the general theme of the topic which you are posting within will be moved or deleted.

So based off the wording above and considering nupowr's post literally was a troll job that offered nothing of substance but was posted with the purpose of generate a negative response- can we call a spade a spade and let bygones be bygones?

That would be a good appeal to the Mods if they decide to do anything about your post. You'll have to see what they say.
