It's a bit asymmetrical in there, isn't it? Seems a bit more representative of the average voter in Nebraska than P&R.

It was inevitable after the Trump tweet today. Still, it's always funny to watch a handful of them proclaim how awesome Dear Leader is for swooping in and attempting CPR on our football season - only to get offended when it's suggested maybe Trump isn't exactly a straight shooter on all things.

Too many of them get their political info from grandma's Facebook feed and think that's reality.

You can find economic data to support just about anything.  Amateur economists were here before every joebob on social media became an epidemiologist.  But you can't fake the real world.  Buildings shooting up like weeds, HELP WANTED signs filling their windows, a sellers market in housing.  This wasn't normal until Trump won the election.

That conversation went down a direction that literally does not make sense.

And not in the 'I literally can't even' kind of way.

Like... literally... doesn't make sense.

He contradicted everything he said. It was weird.

It's almost like there's a team of three or four people, each with access to that account, each posting from different points of view, but each unable to see the others' posts.

I is rude to sweepingly label a position someone takes in a debate as boring or unoriginal in my opinion.  There was no manipulation of your use of banal...whether it applies to accusation or the argument as a whole, it was, in my opinion...the wrong word to use.

This felt like the more appropriate place.

Is it objectively "rude" to label someone's opinion as banal? In my opinion, no. It's no different than saying someone's opinion is ridiculous, wrong, untrustworthy, etc. We attack the post, not the poster, right? That's exactly what I did.

I feel like the quote in my signature speaks volumes to what might be the real issue here which is that you felt persecuted/attacked by my contradiction. But, the only reason we ended up in this position is because you incorrectly suggested that me calling your opinion about privilege 'banal' was somehow an indictment against conversations about racism as a whole. That was a textbook example of creating a strawman argument and, even now, I don't see how you came to this conclusion/interpretation. You are the only person that made that leap and, literally speaking, it does not make any sense.

Like I said though - you are well within your right to disagree with me viewing your opinion about privilege (in relation to GU's tweet) as banal. It was not intended to be rude. The reason I described it as such was because it felt like a low-hanging fruit response. I see a lot of people throw out accusations of 'privilege' all the time during race conversations. My opinion had absolutely nothing to do with privilege. Most people here don't know me or what I've been through in life, so chalking it up to something like privilege was pretty offensive in an of itself.
