Could a mod please explain to her how this is supposed to work? This isn't Facebook or Pinterest. Fed up with these fleeting thought new threads. Explain it however you feel is appropriate or I will, and that probably won't be received very well. I'm way beyond caring if I piss her off. Maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing... I will assume if nobody handles it that it's an invitation for me to.

Agreed... was thinking of asking if she had considered putting this stuff in the miscellaneous BS topic where it belongs rather than the Recipe forum.

It's a catch 22 for sure. If she figures out where all this stuff really belongs then we've compromised many more areas of the board. As is, I guess the sh#tshow stays in the recipe forum. That's probably better than ruining status updates and having garbage scattered all over the Misc BS forum.  Maybe I'll keep my mouth shut.

Haha I thought of that too. Imagine what the off topic forum would look like with no recipe forum. Although she could be asked to put all of her recipes in 1 topic.

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your post gave me cancer anyway.

Yeah but the easiest way to use the board is by going to the Unread Content page instead of checking each individual forum. But when she spews a barrage of new topics that are not intended for any sort of actual discussion it clutters up the board with so much bull$hit.

The way she uses this board is not how you actually use a message board and it makes it worse for everyone else.

I'ma sue for ageism for old people.

I agree that the way she uses it makes it worse for everyone else. I had never once before tried the unread content so I just did. I don't think I like that. Way too many posts listed on subjects I have no interest in. I tend to track things by topic name and I know what forum they're in. So I like to keep an eye on the new topics list on the front page and her posting style renders that useless. Normally I check in often enough that any new topics will be in that list of 5. But when she starts sh#t posting 14 recipes along with 3 or 4 random fleeting thoughts it renders the home page useless. Then I have to go into 4 or 5 forums individually to see if there are any new ones of interest. Maybe it shouldn't bother me as much as it does because.....#firstworldproblems but it's just so senseless.

Senseless makes it sound like someone was murdered :D, but obnoxious works for me. It's also still weird for me that there's a double standard in how she's treated vs. if any of us posted that way. I wonder if she might be one of the mods' grannies.

Um ... no and no.

I tried looking through the setting to see if there's a way to make that forum not show up in Unread Content.  I can't find anything like that.  The only option appears to be setting that forum so that user's can't see other users content at all.  I assume that would make it so it wouldn't show up in the Unread Content stream but (I assume) no one would be able to see anything from anyone else in that forum at all - but the user who posted it could still see it (plus Mods).

What if the Mods asked her nicely to put all of her recipes in one thread? It would be no more difficult to find them there than through any other search, and it wouldn't be a new topic every time.

"Roxy's Recipe Thread" and it would have some of the most views on the site, I'm guessing.

We could even sticky it to the top of that forum so she can easily find it.

IDK man, I really like the idea of a completely new Roxy Forum that only she can see and doesn't show up in the unread content stream or on the new topics list. A private Pinterest forum just for her. Who's with me?   Surely somebody could lock her URL into something like that with a faux Huskerboard appearance. She'd never know the diff.

I joke, but seriously that would be awesome.

I think that was a solution that was worse than the problem unfortunately. You could continue to let her do whatever which isn't terrible, and tell people to continue to ignore it, or ask her to follow board rules like the general pop and then have warnings if she doesn't follow them. E.g. she shouldn't just be littering the recipe forum with 1 off BS posts.

Pretty sure that's not against board rules.
