Not every offer is created equal.
As Nebraska builds its player pool for the next class, each position coach crafts his own draft board at his respective position. There is a top tier — maybe half a dozen players, Held said — who can commit at any time, even if they’ve never visited the campus.
Then there’s another grouping of prospects: NU believes they have talent but wants to learn more. Is there an academic issue? Are they a cultural fit? Can they post even better seasons as high school seniors?
Those offers aren’t “committable” right now, Held said. It is the start of the conversation. And there’s nothing wrong with talking to a lot of people.
