Trump Impeachment # 2

She is doing what she can to save that party despite themselves.
She longs for the good old days of optional wars and near unlimited spying.

Plan B.  Censorship   If the Senate doesn’t convict then the Dems need to push for Amendment 14 article 3 resolution. Censoring Trump that would keep him from running for federal office again

Did you mean "censure?"  Liz Cheney was censured by the her state R party, Trump has already been censored by the main donors of the D party.

Except acquittal doesn't move us on.  Only a conviction can end the era of Trump and turn the party in a different direction.  But it will take courage to do so, something in short supply within the current GOP.   We still have the specter of Trump still being a  force within the GOP without a conviction.   The cult will remain alive.  The GOP will still be saddled with the Trump baggage.  But if that is what the GOP calls moving on, then they can move on without a lot of us who have traditionally been supportive of the GOP.  This past election was the first election I did not vote for one GOP candidate - nationally or locally.   They have no loyalty from me as they lost it a long time ago.
Neither a conviction or an acquittal moves anything.  The thousands of blue collar Americans who voted for Trump do not feel they are represented by the Cheneys and Romneys of the world.

The absolute worst thing for the government would be a surprise 'conviction' in the Senate.  Then Trump might just run in 2024 in the newly formed It's all Rigged  party.  When a state refuses to put Trump on the ballot would force SCOTUS to hear the case that they have ducked so far.  They would have to choose between offending Congress or convincing Trump supporters that it is indeed rigged.

And it's bad for the R party.  Regardless, Donald Trump Jr can run as a third party with a wink and nod, and the resulting schism guarantees another loss.

How in the world is a trial and vote in the Senate in any way a "surprise"?

SCOTUS will have nothing to say as the Constitution gives the right to impeach to the House and convict to the Senate. And as one of the express powers of impeachment and conviction, the Senate can ban Trump from ever holding federal office or appointment.

They said this because they're gaslighting the kind of person who will just believe whatever seems to make trump look good.

What the Senate thinks is Constitutional has to be approved by the Courts, something that never happened in the two non-precedents that the Ds cite as authorities.  For example if the Senate says, Screw the 2/3 clause; we say a simple majority vote = conviction! it would be unconstitutional, and Trump would still be able to sue his way onto the ballot in 2024.  If two times the Senate tried former officials is a precedent than the 100 times they did not hold the trial are counter-precedents.

As impeachment trial starts, Lincoln Project is running ads Trump is sure to see while at Mar-a-Lago. He won’t like them.

The anti-Trump Lincoln Project, which tormented the former president last year with its viral videos and TV ads, was back on the air Tuesday with an ad buy crafted so the former president is almost certain to see them on TV at his Mar-a-Lago resort home.

The ads coincide with the start of the Senate trial of former President Donald Trump on charges of incitement of insurrection after a violent mob of his supporters invaded the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 in an unsuccessful attempt to block the counting of electoral votes that confirmed Joe Biden as the new president.

As is usual for Lincoln Project ads, the new spots are hard-hitting.

Chicken is focused on the former president’s decision not to testify in his own defense during the Senate trial. It shows image of Trump and sounds of his voice in which he makes himself out to be tough — interspersed with images and sounds of a clucking chicken.

Don’t be Distracted features video of Trump and his voice from his pre-riot speech to supporters, interspersed with images of the violence at the Capitol and Republican lawmakers. The message: “Trump’s words. Don’t be distracted. Keep your eyes on the truth.”

Ryan Wiggins, communications director for the Lincoln Project, said the ads are running in Palm Beach and Washington, D.C.

They’re running on the channels Trump is likely to be watching at his Mar-a-Lago Club resort in Palm Beach, where he’s lived since the end of his presidency.

Trouble in paradise!  NewsMax and disgraced lawyer Alan Dershowitz are questioning trump's lawyers!

You're not supposed to speak ill of anything trump related, guys!

These are such spurious arguments. Votes are not "disenfranchised" because they didn't win the election. Notice how this "disenfranchise" argument has never been used in previous elections. It's just such bunk.

And the civil war threat. "Chef's kiss" on tacitly telling trumpets that if their bloated orange god is convicted of the things he so obviously did, they should riot.
