The Village of the "Banned"

The “unread content” page is by far the best way to get caught up on board activity, since you can avoid jumping from one forum to another. But if there are 20 single-post threads that are not intended to generate discussion, it certainly clutters things up.

I can certainly understand that; I don't use the "unread content" feature, so it doesn't bother me, but can appreciate how that could be annoying.

It would be nice if that was an option when ignoring users.

Just have Roxy put all her posts in one thread. She gets to post whatever she wants as often as she wants, no one has to see it because it's not spread all over the site, and it doesn't clutter up the unread content page.

Boom. Done. Everyone's happy.

If she is spewing Qanaon crap that's one thing.  Hell even breaking up the flow of threads then I'd get it.  But people generally have to seek her out in a dead part of the forum to get triggered by her.

You don't have to seek out her bulls#!t to see it. Hell I don't even look at or read 99% of her posts. But the new topics area on the front page of the board is constantly cluttered with her fleeting thought, poorly titled one thought posts. Yes it bugs (triggers) me. I guess it's a pet peeves of mine. Trust me, I wish it wasn't. Kudos to those of you who it doesn't bother.

Looks into future....sees Roxy getting torqued and storming off the board for another 3 month hiatus.

Maybe not a bad plan

I'm not near as upset or anxious as you may think I am.
Tone is obviously difficult to judge on the interwebs, but really with this?

"What stellar line of thought"
"it was just a straight up chickensh#t mod move."
"A real b#tch move if you ask me"
"And so far the guilty mod doesn't have the balls to step up"

OK.

Then, you claim this:

It wasn't offending so they couldn't move it to the offending posts thread. It was on topic so it didn't belong in a tangent thread. It didn't break any board rules or attack anyone.
Followed by what's essentially as close to an admission of guilt that you'll provide after we "chickens#!ts" responded:

My post was a passive aggressive way to give her a hint that her thread titles suck.

So, yeah, it struck a nerve. Your post looked like flaming. Your history of doing such things made it stick out even more. Then you went off and a picked a fight over it all, threw in a few victim cards and took pot shots at mods. And the post was hidden. It's not like you got a full on warning which then I might've understood the aggression. I've already mentioned that I'm trying to engage others in a solution but nobody is going to apologize for slapping you on the wrist.

I guess this place was getting a bit sleepy. It's water under the bridge now. And despite my responses here, I do see with and agree with the point you're ultimately making. I think knapplc's solution is worth considering.

Being totally honest, my post that seemingly "attacked" the mod/mod team was written a lot more inflammatory than I actually felt. I knew calling it chickensh#t etc. would illicit a response. So anyway, I'll apologize for that. I'm not seeking an apology for hiding the post. I simply wanted to point out that I don't agree with that decision in this specific case. I don't have to or even expect to agree with some of these things. Everything's good.

And btw, I try extra hard to be more  inflammatory/controversial in the shed because.... it's the shed. It's gotten more civil in here over the last 5-10 years since all the purges and bannings. Just doing what I can to provide a true shed experience

The amount of consternation this is causing you is ridiculous. Your first complaint in this thread was 17 hours ago and you're treating the lack of response as if someone burned your house down and 911 isn't responding.

You had a post hidden on a message board. Chill. It doesn't matter who did it and picking a fight about it isn't going to do anything for you. Looking at your post, it's pretty clear why it was hidden. You're trying to sell it as something innocent when you've spent years complaining about Roxy and occasionally flaming her when the urge comes over you. If that has resulted in you losing benefit of the doubt... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

I've tried to take a more proactive approach in recents months by cutting down on some of her pointless threads and apparent Google thought dumps, locking threads and encouraging her to change posting habits. I'm not particularly thrilled about the way she treats the board and I've been trying to engage other mods/admins on a good way to address it.

P.S. Can confirm - I'm not getting any cookies.

It's so, so, so much easier to just leave the posts alone than to hide them and try to explain yourself.

True.

But, unless I'm mistaken, you've also championed the "we shouldn't ban people" cause for some time. You have a very laissez faire perspective on board moderation. That said, I respect the consistency. Most everyone else only dislikes moderation when it is applied to them. You, at least, tend to apply the perspective equally.

JJ and I are cool. Sometimes he gets wiley and we just need to satiate his appetite for discord and conflict. I think people should pick fights with him in the Shed more often and then he'd probably be a lot happier  .
