They were wearing $1 million in jewelry during church?


Flashy Brooklyn pastor and his wife robbed of more than $1 million in jewelry while preaching, NYPD says




A flashy Brooklyn pastor known for wearing designer outfits and extravagant jewelry was robbed along with his wife of more than $1 million while he was preaching at church Sunday, police said.
Police say three males entered the Leaders of Tomorrow church Sunday with firearms and removed the jewelry pastor Lamor Miller-Whitehead, who goes by Bishop, and his wife were wearing.
 
Part of the incident was captured on video from inside the church. A portion of the livestream was obtained by CNN affiliate WCBS before it was removed and shows at least one perpetrator holding a gun on the pastor and interrupting his sermon.
 
"All right, all right, all right," Whitehead says in the video, as he raised his hands and lowered himself to the floor.
 
The video is no longer available on the church's livestream, but Whitehead told WCBS what happened.

 
"That -- 'all right, all right, all right' -- is pretty much stating that I don't want, I'm not going to do anything, right, 'cause I know y'all coming for me, y'all coming straight to me. I don't want my parishioners hurt," he said.
 
"I got women and children there. As I got down, one went to my wife and took all her jewelry, and had the gun in front of my 8-month-old baby's face," he continued.
 
"Took off my bishop's ring, my wedding band and took off my bishop chain, and then I had chains underneath my robe, and he start tapping my neck to see if (there was) anything else -- so that means they knew, they watched and they knew that I have other jewelry," he said.
 
Whitehead said there were gunmen with firearms raised to deacons at the door as well. There were about 20 to 25 congregants present, police said.
 
"My church is traumatized," Whitehead said.
 
The NYPD said the suspects took more than a $1 million worth of jewelry and then fled the location on foot. They entered a white Mercedes-Benz vehicle and were seen traveling eastbound on Avenue D, police said.

ANSWER ME THIS:  How does a pastor of 100 people (news video said he had 100 present in the church - perhaps more not there in the service  - lets just round it up to 1000 people for grins) afford $1m in jewelry much less have the the gull (is it high end arrogance or high end stupidity  :dunno ) to parade it out in public.  Doesn't seem very Jesus like to me.  He said he was targeted because he had turned in a murderer to the police in May and the media mentioned his bling and Rolls Royce.

I know this is circumstantial evidence and at best third had information.  But, I had some friends play in a golf tournament in Oklahoma a few years ago.  One of the guys they played with was an ex FBI agent.  They said that one of his main jobs was investigating drug trafficking.  He told them that some of the huge mega churches in the south were known to be major funnels for drugs coming into the country.  That's why they had so much money.  Well.........

WWJD??  Not that video.  Sad how far the American church in many sectors has gotten away from the clear intent of Jesus's teachings.  Man's religion has overshadowed true spirituality.  I can understand why many are turned off by the Americanized, Political evangelical/fundamentalist 'faith' so often presented by 'the church'. Sad thing, it blocks people from seeing Jesus's teachings for what they really are - life giving.

That videogame does unwittingly present a good representation for how evangelicalism missed Jesus.

That entire framework is predicated on building up a castle against the evil forces of the world. Whereas Jesus was a pretty chill nomad, inviting people to walk with him through the wilderness, risk the weather and the chaos, be ready to encounter naked beggars on the side of the road, etc.

One version:  Closed, Risk aversion, escapism - think of the Rapture.   The center of the universe is still the "self"

The other version:   Open, risk indifference, inclusion -  think of the parable - Go into the streets and invite everyone into the banquet  The center of the universe is: Others and Christ's command to love God first and we do that by fulfilling the 2nd command by "loving our neighbor as ourselves' - and we know from the parable of the rich young ruler that neighbor is everyone - regardless of color, political party, faith or no faith, wealthy or not, etc.
