They basically will say "hey, it's going to be tough for you to see the field here, we can try and help you get somewhere to play more or if you want to stay we can get you on a medical scholarship and you can continue going to school." From what I understand it's pretty easy for them to do.So how does that work if they have a scholarship? Seems like the player can jump the team by going to the portal but the coach is stuck wt an unproductive player due to scholarship. They can't be cut like the NFL preseason.
Also in the new world of NIL I'd think that's going to be used as well. Take a guy like Alvano for example. We have three specialists on scholarship which would almost never happen, but the coaches chose to honor his offer because he was an in state kid (and obviously very talented). But they could maybe take Bleekrode of scholarship and try and make sure he gets some extra NIL money to make up for it. I wouldn't be surprised if we see something along those lines with a few guys.
