** 2024 Opponent Preview : UTEP (Game 1) **

It sure is nice not to open with a conference opponent on the road.  IMO, not that Nebraska has any reason to take a team lightly, UTEP should be less formidable than Northern Iowa.
I also had to check and make sure that wasn't the grandson of Jim Walden.  Us old farts remember '92 and the scare in '94.  After further reviews it looks not to be so.  Although his father's name is James.  I just didn't want any more bad football happenstance starting the season.

Reasonably in depth breakdown from a local radio station:

New coach is from Austin Peay (FCS), and looks like most of the major contributors for year 1 are guys he brought with him. A handful of exceptions with returning guys, notably along the DL. Probably only have to worry if the DL (Westmoreland in particular) and the RB from Austin Peay who ran for 1,300 yards last year (Jevon Jackson) go off and have career games.

Actually should be a great week 1 game for us, the coach says he wants to snap the ball every 12 seconds. Obviously not even remotely close to Colorado in terms of athleticism, and they are going to run the ball a lot more. But hopefully a good tune up regarding quick defensive communication and defending the width of the field.

Defense rules.

New honorees of the peer-led vote include linebacker Jimari Butler (No. 1), and defensive backs Marques Buford (No. 3), Tommi Hill (No. 6), and Malcolm Hartzog (No. 7).

He’s making some great points…
The only great points he’s making are about the failure of Texas’ public school English programs.
