Americans are going to get the President they deserve. Trump is an abhorrent person and an embarrassment to history. If Americans wanted better, they would vote better.

I’m guessing because if he had  been killed at least he wouldn’t be president. 
 

It’s a vile statement.  Especially since no one knows who’s responsible. Odds are it’s probably a suicidal nut job without a political affiliation.

I think a presidential candidate getting killed is worse, even though Trump is awful. I feel whatever they would replace him with (even if it wasn't this election) would be worse. It's hard to say though.

I said him dying would have been worse than this. But I'm talking about for the country, I don't necessarily care about him being alive, but am 100% against him being killed by someone else. I suggested recently that best case scenario might be that both Trump and Biden happen to die of old age or a meteor before the election.

This is what I thought you were saying.

I guess maybe I’m the vile one. I think this gets us (the American people) all the worst with no mitigation. The maga camp can run with this as if he had been assassinated and he still gets to be the leader they want. I can’t imagine anyone else could take his place with full effect.

 
Shooter is reported to be a 20 year old from Pennsylvania. Nothing to be politically driven. Just another emotionally dissrranged youth. Like most of the recent school shooters.

It depends on whether you think Trump is the sole person who can do what he does, or if he would just be replaced by someone else. I happen to think he can be replaced with someone smarter and more capable of meeting the far right's goals.

Get a different candidate and go with a heavy gun control platform.  Exploit the hell out this situation and the school and other mass shootings. 
 

although how do you keep an ordinary rifle out of the hands of the deranged? Might throw in mental health too.

Oh, I think he absolutely could be replaced by someone smarter and more capable. I mean that’s a given.  I just don’t think that person would have the same appeal to his base and that makes him the essential element for their brand of crazy. I could be wrong. As we have seen, there is no shortage of batsh!t elected folk in the GOP willing to do damaging things.

I wish today’s events surprised me, at least a little bit. It didn’t. I was wondering just a couple days ago when something would happen. I didn’t know if it would be Trump or Biden but the political discourse in this country is not healthy. At. All. I also expect there will be another “event” before the election. There is way too much demonization, misinformation and rabble rousers and way too many people that don’t seem capable of realizing just how good they actually have it in this country. It’s all so illogical.
