12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

How do we not have 16 team playoff ?

4 games per side of a bracket (8 teams per side).  Play until you have a championship game that is earned.

With 12 team format, I just don't agree with bye weeks for the top chosen teams.

Who selects the top 4 teams and how is it decided ??  A committee (group of people and financial influence, TV recommendations, etc).

There will always be human error and bias and controversy.  Money will always be involved.  Advertising and TV will also be involved.  Even computer numbers will get crunched to help pick the top 4.

And I thought the single most important factor for deciding a national championship game was to avoid all the BS.  :LOLtartar

4 teams with same record ranked 1-4.  Who decides the pecking/ranking order and why is that ok?

Just wondering when a day comes when everything gets thrown away and smart people say "it's 8 teams, no byes, play ball" or... "it's 16 teams, no byes, play ball".

Which leaves us the question.....  how do you rank a team?  Seriously

I completely 1,000% agree.  It’s stupid to give the top teams a bye. But, college sports seem to be in love with the idea.

It will be a 16 teamer in 2 years.

And it will be amazing.  This 12 teamer is going to be great but it is clearly a stupid idea start with 12 and byes.  But it is what was decided so here we are...for two years.

Not understanding you.  The people who rank the teams 1-12 are the same people who will rank the teams 1-16.  Just because we are ranking 4 more teams makes it ok?

They don't do it by committee or voting though. If there was an unbiased way to sign the be, that would at least be better. 16 still makes way more sense though.

The byes aren't given by committee in CFP either.  One each will go to the winner of the B1G, SEC, Big 12, and ACC.

Yes, I know it will go to the 4 highest ranked conference champs, but the scenario of the winner of the Mountain West, AAC, MAC, or Sun Belt being higher ranked than a P4 champ is pretty low (especially now in the division-less world we live in).

The committee ranks the conference champs that get a bye, which is still a committee determining who gets the byes. You can say it's not a big deal. I strongly disagree.

For the most part, the top 6-10 will be easy to "pick"

After that, there will be debate.

In the end, this is going to be the most erection filled CFB season ever.

It’s really pretty easy though. There are only 4 top tier conferences left. Whoever wins those 4 deserves a bye. Do you see a scenario where a mountain west school will deserve a bye over the big 10 champ? Sec champ? Acc champ? Big 12 champ? I can’t

now if the pac 12 still existed I could see argument

This is where I disagree. No team deserves a bye based on their conference.

There's no unbiased way to assign byes based on each team's performance (in college football at least); therefore, there should be no byes. 8 or 16 team playoffs accomplish this.
