Single Digit Jerseys

Aren't all of the numbers up for grabs? I feel like I've read multiple times that the single digits reset every year and players have to re-earn them.

 
I would guess no single digits from last year are not re voted to receive them again

Here are my guesses for the others. 

1 - Dylan Raiola (Or Malachi Coleman)

3 - Tommi Hill

4 - Rahmir Johnson

6 - Marques Buford

7 - Jahmal Banks

 
They don't need to be balanced, but there are currently 0 offensive players with a single digit. I feel like the shortlist is:

  • Dylan Raiola
  • Jahmal Banks
  • Malachi Coleman
  • Thomas Fidone
  • One of Gabe Ervin/Rahmir Johnson/Emmett Johnson
  • Tommi Hill
  • Marques Buford
  • Jimari Butler
  • Cameron Lenhardt

Dark horses would be guys like Vincent Shavers, Elliot Brown, and IGC. Obviously other guys could get them too.

My guesses are:

Raiola, Banks, Coleman, Buford, and Ervin.

I kind of thought so too, but I don't think they would let them keep their numbers into fall camp if that was the case and the returnees still have them. I also vaguely remember a "once it's yours, it can't be taken away" deal where they had a guy try to turn his back in after some off the field issues and they made him keep it. I still kinda though that was just for the year, but must be until you leave.

It is a good question, I remember one of the MR pressers he was asked about it. I couldn’t hear the question so not exactly sure how it was worded, but MR said something like Yes, as long as they continue to earn them. I am guessing that he means. They keep them as long as the coaches feel they are maintaining the program standards in all facets.

 
If you get selected by your peers and had a single digit last year, you keep it and wear it again if you want.

From last year - Billy Kemp is gone ( 1 ), Henrich is gone ( 3 ), Luke Reimer is gone ( 4 ),  Sims is gone ( 7 ), and Newsome is gone ( 6 ).   

Those numbers def available.  

That leaves us with the following returning single digit players.

Nash ( 0 )

Gifford ( 2 )

Bullock ( 5 ) 

Singleton ( 8 )

Ty Robinson ( 9 )

And they would each have to earn it for this year.  To be honest, I have not heard anything about them this year except for Gifford.  So don't be surprised if some of these great players didn't earn it among their peers in camp, for whatever reason.  And that's ok.  Don't lose sleep over it.   

I also think if Raiola is picked by his peers for earning it, he might grab ( 1 ). 

Although I hate that number for a QB lol. 

Because it is sooo grade school / Pop Warner.

What are you talking about? All these guys are going to be starting, they aren’t losing the numbers.

 
Yeah yeah yeah…..but when are the Blackshirts getting handed out?  :D

I’m so over the Blackshirts and single digit numbers. I mean it’s a cool tradition and a cool new thing but just play ball like you belong on the field….all players, all the time. And I don’t care what jersey or number you’ve earned, when your play slips, you sit. IMO you earn it every play and every practice. Other than that it doesn’t mean much. I mean for godsakes Sims had a single digit last year. What good did that do the team?

Of course they will start. 

Now I could be wrong, but I thought the team votes for the guys who are the toughest, most dependable, hardest working players every single day.  And every year returners have re-earn it.  From Spring Practices throughout summer and into Fall Camp.  So that's what I'm talking about.
