** 2024 Opponent Preview : Illinois (Game 4) **

Kansas win looking a little less impressive

I think the best comparisons early in the season are comparisons between the same team this season vs. last season. That's why I think it's clear Nebraska is a lot better; we flipped the Colorado game. It's not because I think Colorado is good, it's because I think Colorado is about the same as last year, and therefore we're not.

Illinois did the same thing with KU. Illinois lost to KU last year. Maybe KU is worse now, but UNLV isn't an awful team and they only lost to KU by 13 points 9 months ago (49-36).

That said, I don't think Illinois is much better than last year, and the game is at home this year. I'm less concerned with them than I am Purdue and Indiana since they're away games.

UNLV is actually getting a little better the last few years since they can recruit to the facilities.  I still agree though Kansas win not looking "great"
UNLV rolled Houston on the road. Not that Houston is an intimidating place to play-but it was still a big road win. The scariest part of that stadium is getting to it.

Then Houston went on the  road and almost beat Oklahoma.  So who knows how good anyone is.

This is where I’m at.  I think Illinois is about the same.  Kansas is not.  Something has happened to their offense.  I don’t know enough about them to get in the weeds.  I’ve just watched bits of two of their games.  Every time i looked Daniels was running for his life.

Good gracious me, I was at both of those. The pummeling from UCLA in the second half was numbing. I still hate seeing those goofy bastards dancing on the sidelines during the near infinite kickoffs they had to do because they were scoring constantly.

Kirk Cousins sucks!

Illinois beat Kansas in the only comparable game by getting a bunch of turnovers, a few good passes, and a timely QB scramble. Dylan will need to do what he's been doing and take care of the ball. Containment will be important for the D line rather than running hog wild around the back like they did against Colorado. Don't let their crossing routes fool our secondary and lb's counter the end around with awareness and speed. Kansas QB threw a bunch of passes up for grabs including a pick six.
