I'd still rather see him running drag routes beyond the LOS. He runs with too much "momentum" and it takes him awhile to turn it up field. BUT this is a good design when a defense is selling out on the run. You can see he gets lost behind the line when the LBs bit hard on the play fake.

I have been more impressed than I thought I would be coming into the year.  The second half "issues"  I believe are being smart and also getting more guys in and trying things in games.  We simply have not been in that position in a while.

Two good plays in a row where this video starts:
 


The first play is a 1st & 10. We change it up from running Dowdell, there's some pressure in Raiola's face but he stays calm and finds Barney in space.

The second play was awesome to see get executed so well, because it was also great from a play calling perspective. We are actually lined up in a 4 receiver set here on 1st down, even though two of them are tight ends. Nelson kinda jiggles underneath our slot guy in this little screen.

Nelson's balance and hip mobility are kind of crazy, he sort of moves like a little guy.

Then on the play after that it's Nelson's touchdown reception. I'm kind of seeing how Satterfield is actually "spreading the field" with these big guys. Somewhere out there @brophog is saying "I told you we'd do this."    :)     Do you log in during the season, brophog, or only in the offseason? Where are you?!

Feel like it is a key concept in our offense. On a run Fidone takes the same path many times to deliver a kick out block so it only makes sense to run a pass off of that action. Probably a deep shot off of this as well where reciever fakes the block and runs a go behind it

We also have a version where Fidone takes that same path and glances back for the ball, but then turns upfield to block and we flip it out to the RB on a swing pass instead. It's a nice twist on the checkdown swing pass with a lead blocker that is trendy. It is truly amazing how much more creative coordinators can seem when they have talent to work with. I have to assume there was a ton of creativity last year, but it's a lot harder to notice when the results are terrible.

This one has Fidone in motion, but I assume we could run it with him as the stationary wing too. We have options if teams continue to crash hard on the arrow like UTEP did - haven't even mentioned the normal 3rd option on the Arrow RPO, where the QB just takes it up the seam if the defense is in good position for both the handoff and arrow. Probably not something we want Raiola to do a lot though.
