The return of EA Sports College Football

Anyone have tips for defending against Verticals?

I decided to play online as Nebraska and did vs. any rated team. Got #3 Texas. I could tell my opponent was an a$$h@!e. Stopping to have his players gloat constantly (like, before the play was over), always going for 2, doing onside kicks once he got up 16-0.

Then I scored a TD and it was 16-8, then he got up 22-8 using the Verticals play and the guy was wide open.

I scored again, 22-15. Then 28-15 with the Verticals play again.

28-22

I drain down 4.5 minutes running and throwing quick passes, but score a TD with 1.5 mins left to go up 29-28. He does the GD Verticals play. I actually ended up with a chance to win it with 1 sec left but got sacked.

I tried a few diff formations but it’s like Texas’s WR is just a god that no “lowly” Nebraska CB could possibly ever stop from scoring a TD on every single play.

I don't think there's anything you can really do. I've called zones, cover 2 man, sent blitzes, and made all kinds of pre snap adjustments; but if the other teams is a higher tier and the WRs are better than your secondary you'll get these ridiculous blown coverages. If I'm playing with Nebraska online I set the opponent to Tier 4 because of that. Unless your opponent sucks it's extremely difficult to win as a lower tier, especially with the 3 minute quarters.

The only other thing I can think of is in coaching adjustments (R3 at play selection) change CB matchups to "by overall" so you will have best-on-best.

I haven't figured out what they run, but the CPU can defend it well from time to time.  Might just be if they go to Prevent but there are a couple that keep either the CB or a safety deep.

Not sure it would defend against the Verticals or not but I ran across a set that seems to let me get pressure really quickly.  Tampa 2 Sim Pressure from a three-man front.  There is an OLB/DB that blitzes off the corner.  If you control the DE on the blitz side and move him from the inside shoulder of the OT to the outside shoulder pre-snap, the CPU seems to know that the blitz is coming so the OT jumps out to pick up the blitzer.  But by moving to the outside shoulder of the OT pre-snap, the OG doesn't adjust to get out to block the DE.  So I was getting a free run at the QB quite a bit.  Plus there are five defenders covering the short zone and two safeties deep so there isn't a lot of places to go with the ball quickly.

I tried to play a couple online games tonight and the servers are just unbearably laggy.

I also realized that EA pretty much screwed up the best part of the game with Road to the CFP. You can't customize playbooks or uniforms, you have to pick a team before you know your opponent's team, there's no way I can see to identify opponents skill, there's no way to tell if they have a good connection, and there's no way to back out of the game of their super laggy.

That would suck most def.

But you did answer an internal thought of mine.  I was wondering if you can change/customize your uniforms and choose week to week.  It doesn't sound as fun if you cannot change it up much.  And that's part of the new fun of college football.  Diff uniform looks.  Missouri and TCU for example, do it all of the time.

You can change uniforms in other modes, if they're available. Nebraska unfortunately has no alternates in the game.

Honestly this game just isn't fun anymore. I hadn't played in a couple weeks, now I can't win a single game online unless I'm playing with tOSU.

I'm pretty sure a lot of plays, especially passes, are predetermined. One pass literally went through my TEs hands for an INT. Not like he whiffed, it literally clipped through both of his hands as if they didn't exist and like a magnet went to the DB while the TE continued with the catch animation. On a kickoff one of my guys turned into a rocket, zoomed across the field and couldn't be blocked so he made a tackle before the 20 yard line. In a RTCFP game against Miami I'm down a TD in the 3rd qtr and my opponent is going for for it on 4th and long. He doesn't convert and I'm back in the game, he does and I won't have time for a come back. The ball is thrown behind a receiver and hits him in the back, which should be an incompletion, but somehow it spins in the air and the receiver flips around, stops on a dime, and catches it! WTaF!!! But then I have so many dropped passes on perfectly thrown balls that it's unreal. I don't get it. I'm also getting tons of blown coverages in cover 2 and 3.

I feel like I don’t have any of these issues in my online dynasty or playing users online tbh. Only issues I seem to have is when I run a jet sweep with a lead blocking RB they don’t actually block.

I was totally fine for the first couple months while everyone was b!^@hing about missed blocks and roughing the kicker. Never had those problems. Then I step away and come back and start having issues. It's weird...

Hopefully they'll work out the kinks for the game next year, and hopefully Nebraska wins 8+ games this year so the players will get a boost.
