Purdue - What did we learn?

I re-learned that I dislike Satterfield as an OC/playcaller. He would be an excellent offensive analyst, but I can’t stand watching playcalling in the red zone, especially in Goal-to-Go downs.

Going back to last season, he overthinks game situation and under thinks personnel where it cost up to 3 potential wins. That Carter Nelson over the top call, even if it worked, boneheaded. I’d be pissed if I were a running back.

Listened to Carriker gut reaction, he mentioned a quote from Satterfield earlier this week about run game philosophy. Dude never once dedicated to the run game against one of the worst rushing defenses in CFB.

Pay him to stick around Lincoln for game planning and offensive scheme install. However, just completely out on Satterfield having anything to do with in-game coaching.

I disagree. Two wrongs don’t make a right. If you want to teach your team discipline, you show composure and demonstrate how not to let your emotions get the best of you. The do as I say not as I do approach to coaching is not a good one. Just because the players liked him getting a penalty does not make it OK.
I do think that they appreciated that Coach had their back not that the penalty was right.  I agree with you however, like Coach said, he thought he was in bound.  I have seen other coaches throw fits and never get penalized.

We can debate a lot of things about this team, but there's no way around the lack of a field goal threat and how that will impact all the other good & bad stuff.

Without too much finger pointing, how did this happen? I know Alvano is injured, but pretty sure we considered him a weak link last year, too.
We are 4/9 this year on field goals. It feels much worse.  We were 4/6 before yesterday-with misses in the Colorado and  Illinois games.

the misses yesterday should be considered make able.

The problem is it's been more than the kickers.  They've missed some makeable ones.  But we've also had issues with snaps.  We made our second change at long snapper yesterday.  I think that was more the issue yesterday: the snaps being poor were messing with the timing.

We’re good on extra points. Is snapping different for extras?

What I learned was I’m glad those Texas Longhorn pricks are the SEC’s problem now.  Don’t miss them one bit.

As for kickers…the one who transferred to Iowa State from Nebraska last year turned out to be excellent.  Maybe the evaluation team sucks?

After 5 games into the season, here is what I have learned:

1.  The QB and WRs are MUCH better than last season

2.  The running game is not as good as I expected

3.  The overall D has taken a slight step back from last season

4.  Special teams appears to be worse than ever

5.  Team discipline is still an issue regarding penalties.  The team has cleaned up turnovers.

Overall, some small strides have been made from past season but we have yet to face the toughest part of the schedule. These small strides should yield at least a 6-6 or 7-5 season.

I've learned that I'm in the minority on this, but in 60 years of watching Husker football, I don't recall the announcers ever affected my enjoyment of the game one way or the other, with the possible exception of the great Keith Jackson.
Yeppers, when listening to Keith, I always came away learning something new.

Can any of this be chalked up to opponents having more film/scouting of the 3-3-5 since that was just implemented last year?
Giving more attention to Nash and Ty.  Finding the soft spots and exploiting them. I don't think the D has taken a step back. They are getting stops when the need them (for the most part)  and they are causing turnovers

Good breakdown
